Default Bad gas mileage!!!

so my gas mileage has been really bad.like 8 mpg in town.my cats were hollowed out by the previous owner but i do not think this plays any role in this.just smells alot like gas.what i did last week was take out the 2 before cat o2 sensors and cleanes them using a blow torch.there wasnt much carbon on it so there wasnt much of a diference after i cleaned it.im not exaclty sure if its my mind but i felt a little improvement in acceleration.filled up 3.5 gallons of gas and was able to do just 40 miles.in city with smooth driving.which gives me just 12 mpg.does any one have any idea what i can do?i use premium gas all the time.tire pressures and everything has been checked.

Hey whats uP. Im no rocket surgean, BUT, if you smell gas then you just might have a gas leak somewhere. Check all your fuel lines to make sure everything is tight. When I first bought my SC I smelled gas too, but it was because the car was missing its charcoal cainister; doesnt make a difference in gas mileage, but took away that gas oder. 92 Sc300 Automatic - 1jzgte swap Good luck. Keep us posted with the outcome of your situation.

Yes check the fuel injector o-rings, when they crack and rip it will smell like gas and your fuel economy will be horrible because it's actually leaking out! I experienced this as well and it was leaking on the rail.

if your car has hollowed cats and bad 02 censors.
it is causing it to run rich witch could explain why you are smelling a faint gas smell.
also your car running rich will majorly effect your gas millage because you are using more fuel .
something to look into.

You used a blow torch to clean an electronic part. Interesting...

EGR Valve hanging open will kill gas mileage.

i would recommend soaking your 02 censors in gas to clean them not a blow torch.
and like TechGreek said check your egr valve.

It's also not about just how the O2 sensors look, if they are giving the Computer a bad signal then the computer might be making your fuel injectors to stay on longer because your computer will think it's running lean all the time when in face it's not. And yah like the guy up there said, check your EGR and listen for any sounds coming out the exhaust pipe, for uneven sputtering, you may have a misfire
