Default Voltage drop when brakes applied.

Hey there. I am having a little electrical trouble. Whenever I put on the brakes I am getting a voltage drop. It's not bad enough to make my lights flicker but my battery light will come on after several minutes of driving. I figure I probably have a bad ground somewhere in the car. I have diagrams that show all the grounds from console to the tail lights but I am missing the page for the ones under the hood.

Does anyone have a diagram like this one for the SC400?

First how do you know? What do you have a multi meter hooked up going down the road?

Second, grounds don't usually "Lightly go bad", either your ground is completing the circuit, or it's not and you'd notice.

The battery light on your dash is connected to the 12v+ switch in the alternator to tell it to charge the system.

IF the warning light comes on, it usually means there is a short at your alt, as its the only thing it's connected to.

It's in your battery cables, likely in the actual cable itself inside the clamp.

My RPM's drop about 200 or so when I press on the brake. I cleaned all of the grounds, got new connectors, purchased a new battery, etc. It didn't change anything. If you figure it out, let me know.

Do a voltage drop test on your battery cables. Make sure connections are tight. Get your battery load tested and what is your charging voltage?

Bad grounds, the car is notorious for it. Get a new neg cable, and check to make sure you have good quality ground points in the engine bay. I did one of the expensive grounding kits years ago, and I am going to ditch it soon when I get a chance to replace my neg cable

Default 1/2 Solved

My LS had a voltage drop every single time I pressed on the brake pedal. The lights would dim and the a/c fan would slow then speed up again as the alternator would return power. I noticed my vehicle stopped this crazy behavior directly after I replaced all 6 of the taillight bulbs with 1157 red Sylvania leds straight from Wal-Mart. No longer does the voltage drop when I hit the brakes.<br/>
