Default how do i adjust the inner door lock thread?

there is a cable that is attached to the inner door handle.. it has thread attached to the cable, but regardless of how much i screw or pressure i apply the plastic piece does not move up or down the thread.

my inside door handle has excess slack so it sits "in between" the locked and unlocked position when it is actually "locked".

thoughts?

edit: its one of these cables for reference:
