Default Should I? SC400 1997

Hi, Im Mike and new to this forum, and first post I do, is a question.

I am currently looking at a 1997 SC400 with 170k on it, for 4999. Down payment of 1500 and monthly is TBD.

I have gotten to drive it and everything and everything seems perfect on it. It's only been owned by one person.

Your thoughts Club Lexus?

And for anyone wanting to know color, its black.

Thank you,
-Mike

The deal seems pretty fair for a 1997

I got my 1995 with 160000 miles for $3500 but put in about another $2000 with the maintenance items

You should factor that in because these cars are expensive to maintain but well worth it.

If the maintenance was completed then I would buy it. Also how is the interior?

The maintenance has been kept up as well.

And the interior is perfect. No damage to it whatsoever.

Pics or a link to the car would be helpful.

By what you describe it sounds like a great car. Just make sure it really is a one owner car and that it was properly maintained. It is always a good idea to have a car checked out by a mechanic for a clean bill of health prior to purchase. Hopefully the timing belt and water pump have been replaced recently, giving you some time before you have to get it done. With that many miles, make sure the suspension is thoroughly checked out, as the rubber bushings have probably wasted away.

That car is not a 1997, it's a 1992.

That is certainly not a 97...if it checks out, go for it.

If they'll lie about the year, why trust them on anything else about it?

Run a CarFax on it and let's see if it is really one owner.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with MooJohn. I'd run, not walk away from it- something just seems fishy. I've been in that boat before (where I had a vibe but ignored it) and it was to my downfall.

Sometimes you just have to wait it out before you pull the trigger.

Yeah, been thinking of that now, of course such a great car to have.

I'm probably just going to get the VIN and then run it. Otherwise, it's off to looking for another vehicle.

I haven't been having much luck with getting my own car haha

To be honest no, even if it was a 97. Maybe I'm biased because the SC market in FL is huge.
+ to the weird dealership mistake comments

SC4's and 3's aren't that common here. I guess you could call them rare.

Caveat emptor, I strongly reccomend passing on this SC. Reasons why? Missleading year, small auto lot, Texas (home of title washing) no plates on the car more then likely flood vehicle totaled out. They say maintenance up to date but with out physical proof that means they popped the hood and sprayed the motor so it looks shiny and made sure there was air in the tires.

Lol, so true. never trust a small private dealer like this. they are just trying to make a quick buck and will tell you anything just to get the sale. if you really want it though have a mechanic check it out 1st. you wouldnt want to finance this car AND have to make repairs too. sc's are not cheap to maintain..
