Default Is this Phillips HID PnP Kit SC300/400 specific?

Hey all.

I'm looking into plug and play Phillips HID kits and found one with a relay cable.

Can anyone confirm either of these kits are specifically wired to work with the SC300/400 connectors?

The only thing you need to make sure that matches is your bulb size, the rest of the parts in any HID kits are pretty much universal. 9006 is the correct bulb size for a stock SC 300/400 headlight.

^^ Thank you! I was looking for 9006 specifically. Do most of these PnP kits for SC's have matching Toyota style connectors to literally plug in? Other than the relay harness of course.

Edit: Also, what is the difference between the "single beam" version and the other version?

The stock plugs plugs directly on the bulb used in the car, that's why I said the important thing is the bulb size. If the bulb size is the right one, then the plugs that would come with the HID kit would be the same.

Although I have no idea what's the difference with the single beam, maybe someone else can shed light on this. There's really no explanation on the website and alot of acronyms they use doesn't show what they mean either. But I'm still looking at it.

Looks like "single beam" means it's not bi-xenon, which uses one bulb for high and low beams. The SC would be fine with single beam.

It looks like a nice kit, and it had better be for 10x the price of the DDMs!

That wouldn't make sense, because 9006 bulbs are really single beams? But one thing I noticed is that they have different acronyms being used for ballasts on the 2 different sets.

Hey guys. I ended up ordering the single-beam kit. A bit pricey but I just didn't feel like getting into a TSX projector conversion with as busy as I am.

I found this video which explained the single-beam and bi-xenon confusion. SC's have high beams in separate housings so we use single-beams.

It still don't make sense. 9006 bulb size is a single beam bulb, it doesn't have high beam built-in inside the same bulb, so why would that website have a bi-xenon option? Weird...

Thanks for the info anyhow.

Kingphillip, what ballast mounting brackets do you recommend? I ordered these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-B...#ht_500wt_1180

I am hoping they work out much better than the 3M adhesive that came with the kit. Also, I am thinking of mounting my ballasts in the area just in front of my radiator inside the bumper but I do have a 97+ front end with the open grill area. Do you think this will be a problem?

You may get water on if you have the 97 front end. On my 93, the ballast would be perfectly safe inside the bumper assuming there were no gaps in the high beam areas. I put one of mine to the side of the battery and the other is in a slot behind the passenger headlight.

If you can seal off the spot behind the grille, you should be fine.

I mounted mine with the 3m double adhesive, I've always had great experience with it so I know how well it will handle. Plus, the heat of the ballasts would usually heat the adhesive everytime the HID's are turned on so the adhesive wouldn't dry out. Oh, also when you remove the headlight, you'd see an aluminum bar, the front bumper support, and that's where I mounted the ballasts. It's okay if the ballasts get splashes of water it doesn't really damage it, it's not like you're gonna submerge your SC in a puddle of water deep enough to reach it. IMO you don't really need brackets for you to mount the ballasts, it just makes it complicated on where to mount it and might even scratch the paint.

Thanks kingphilip and Kira X.

I got the brackets but despite being about the only thing I could find they were pretty much unusable. I had to shim the ballasts on one side to get a tight fit. They weren't going to be secure mounting them anywhere so I ended up mounting the ballasts directly behind the front bumper. Now they are secure. No more 3M adhesive tape failing inside the engine compartment.

It almost never rains badly in L.A. but I might have issues with water if I were to travel elsewhere. I don't think the fake grill does anything functional since the cars were originally designed to have no grill. I'd like to find a non-destructive way to block it off from behind.

There really aren't many places to put these things without blocking other components and serviceable areas.
