Bought a 92 Sc400 from my friends, friend for mid 2K (first car), after driving it for a bit I realized how "rough" it was. Drove good, just the body and interior was "rough"

Upgraded to a 95 Renaissance Red SC400 in near mint condition, and working to make it factory mint! Pic's of both can be seen here https://www.clublexus.com/forums/6616134-post2015.html

I really don't think it's worth the time and money to take a rough SC400 and make it mint, found it better to buy an already mint or close to mint SC and work with that.

Good thing about my "rough" SC is that it's now my parts car

have you tried taking the car for a rip, getting the engine really warm and then going for emissions?

My buddy is going through the same thing with his SC. Might just need to do a full tune up?

i paid 2900 for my sc400 came with hid's,coil-overs,and a full set of rims but the interior is shot right now so now that i just got a job i am gonna knock out that interior and get a new paint job and i am gold.....and the car is a monster for bone stock..the only way i would ever sell my sc is to get a mk4 supra.

i would say my car was cleaning up until the motor blew and i moved than it went back to crap thats now in storage haha...

needs the spare motor put in, interior work, could use a paintjob, retinting needs to be done but thats about it. i think most SC's need those last 3

I bought mine in clean, stock condition but a bit rough. It needed all the major required engine maintenance, some interior parts replaced (leather seats were perfect though-- no cracks), a new set of shocks, brake job, new clutch and pressure plate, new tires, new shifter bushings, new remote keys, new climate control LCD, new fuel gauge, new gas tank sending unit, new trunk struts, new shift ****, new driver's side locking mechanism... I'm sure I'm forgetting some other things but those are the main ones. It's to be expected of a nearly twenty year old car.

Otherwise it wasn't trashed when I bought it and it never had any accidents.

At this point it's not a rough car any more but it's always going to be an old car. A maintained one at least.

Mine looks good for being 20. Some fresh paint and wheels and ill be set. The interior is surprisingly decent too, so those parts aren't bad considering how cheap I got it.

I think my car epitomizes rough, too.
it's been in a front end collision, and "repaired". front bumper and driver's fender don't quite line up. upper and lower radiator supports are tweaked.
rear quarters have bondo, and is cracking under the paint.
it's all one color (thank god), but it's not the factory dwp, it looks more like an offwhite pearl color.

had blown shocks when I got it. no door panels, leather seats are ****ed.
ran on four cylinders, and had a knot on one tire the size of my fist.

all in all, it wasn't bad for a $400 car. $3000 later, it still looks like crap, but runs amazingly.

There are a lot of us with rough ones. Thats why we're here. Too cheap to pay a mechanic or body man to work on them for us so we look to those who have been there before us. My 92 SC400 was $1000 came with a slipping transmission, barely made it the 40 mile drive home. Filter change fluid flush and some Lucas Transmission treatment and 1 year later it's still running great!

i bought a 97 sc300 for $3,400. Its got rust on the quarter panel and paint peeling. It pretty much needs a full repaint, but the maintenance is up to date. Its mostly a project car and will be getting a na-t setup as soon as I can sell my 400.
