New to me 92 SC400
Hey guys, new to this forum. Just got started on my 1992 Lexus sc400 that I purchased from a pharmacist that he owned since new. This will be my daily driver. I am trying to get the most out of this car, and trying to keep costs to a minimum. I paid 2600 dollars, and car has 141 000 km. For a safety I put on rear brakes, and a lightbulb and she passed. This car is not my only project, so the goal of this project is to get the most out of my money for mods . That means taking chances with some used parts, and being thrifty (cheap at times) So far I have purchased 19" diablo rims with Toyo Proxy 2 tires with 8000km on them, for $750 from an older guy who sold his car. They fit very nice and look alright. Second mod was a bodykit and paint. This is where people say you get what you pay for. Purchased the kit for $460 of bodykits.com, and fitment was a disaster. Bodywork on the entire car including paint was $1350 (including new windsheild that they broke when removing). A picture is attached of the car. Let me know what you think Remember this project is based on getting the biggest results for the least cost.
Questions:
What should be my next mods? Lowering car, air intake, ????
Has anyone tried these exhausts? Im looking for some more sound, as these exhaust seem very restrictive

Im looking forward to learning from your forums!

i know its your car and all but you have a gem why would you want to go cheap as possible on it? i mean being the second owner of such a beautiful car in amazing condition you should be spending the money it deserves on it. but as for next mods lower it but dont do it on the cheapest coils/ spring setup. remember it is a 3500 pound car. from what ive heard k-sport is pretty good (im seriously considering a set of k-sport coils when i can afford them) and a lot cheaper than other good brands. a set of 36 (or 32) way adjustable coils is $1000 compared to teins that are 12 (or 16) way for $1500.
(or 32) and (or 16) is because im dyslexic easily get numbers confused like that from memory.

I guess because money is an issue, Im putting alot into my 1955 dodge, and have a house. I will post pics of the front. Maybe I should wait until I can free up some money to dedicate to this project. Problem is this car is fairly slow and getting some good hp gains is extremly costly, no real turbo or super options for this car. Too bad i love the way it looks

idk much about the 400 but im guessing the slowness is probably caused by the auto tranny and the weight. you can strip the trunk and pull out the back seats to help a little (did that in my 300 for a while and i could feel a slight difference). also pics of the dodge? a tranny swap would be more expensive though but it would probably help more than some smaller add ons. talk to some of the guys with 400's with tranny swaps. honestly the 400 could be a really fun car if you invest like 10,000 into it over time. thats what im expecting to spend on my sc300 and thats including a motor swap.

hey man nice ride. i think the wheels and kit look great. cant wait to see more pics. also post pics of the truck if u have any. i think u should get springs next. u already have a kit and wheels. those seem like mods mostly to make the car look good so i would finish it off with some springs.
400's are slow. trust me i have two of them, but i still love them. when u get into speed, depending on what hp gains u want, i would suggest getting exhaust and intake. ull feel the difference and maybe it will make u happy enoughh. gl

Yeah entire car was painted, with gold sparkle looks cool in the sun. a bunch of small body work, rust above the windshield (broke windshield because of stone chip and replaced at no cost) and the kit install. All included in price. Just a guy and a booth.

damn that thing is bad ***... good luck with both projects... id spend way more time and money on the antique. it will pay off more if u ever want to sell... and if u dont, u will still have a great looking car u can hand down to kids or anyone else u choose.

I've done BFI, Headers, Full Exhaust, 5 spd swap. The car is totally different, the 1uz wakes up but nothing compared to a 300 NA-T. If you want a fun V8, do all I did and you'll be close to hitting the full NA potential of the 1UZ. You can still FI later on once you get bored but be prepared to spend more. I used to wish I had a 300 to go NA-T, kinda happy now with the awakened 1uz.

Thats a pretty white sc. Welcome to the club. Just do a bfi and full exhaust. That will do a little more performance but nothing more breath taking results. For best results within a budget with the v8 is a supercharger and a set if headers. I dont think thre is anyone making them any more. Good luck with your decision. NOS is also a good boost on the stock tranny. Make sure its a wet shot system and no more than a 100 shot.
