Default Is my asking price unrealistic?

I have a 1999 SC300 black on black that I bought in the USA about 4 years ago and brought it back to Vancouver BC Canada. It was traded in to a dealer by the original lady owner when she bought an RX300. It has 130k miles and is in very good original condition. I have been asking $7900 without success and wondering have prices really dropped that much for these cars?

Yes, I think the prices have dropped that much. I own a '98 Jeep Wrangler, completely base model, and it blue books almost $2k higher than my 97 SC300. Keep in mind, the Wrangler also has 101,000 miles on it. To put the icing on the cake, we are experiencing a 16 year high in used car prices at the moment. That means if you can't sell your car at $7900 easily now, could you ever?

I'm going through the same pain as you right now. I've got an amazing deal waiting on me if I could just get rid of one of my vehicles, but I can't get them to sell for the life of me.

I think 8k USD is pushing it. If the car was a black on black SC400 in mint condition it might be worth that. 7k is a fair price in my opinion. I think the issue you have is with the BC market. If you were in Southern California then the car would be an easy sell. With a lower population in BC you have less people willing to buy and less offers. What I'm getting at is 7,000k here might be worth 6,500 or even 6,000 there.

I think it really depends on where you live. How big is the import car scene there?

Here in Hawaii, it's really hard to find a clean, well kept SC with under 3 owners here so people will be a little less flexible with the pricing & keep it close to KBB prices. In fact, there is a guy (2nd owner) that listed his 1993 SC300 w/31,000 miles (gold/tan) for $17,000! I called him just to check if that was a typo...he said it wasn't because it's really clean, low miles, & hard to find here. I HIGHLY doubt he'll sell it for that much, but if he waits long enough he still might get over $10,000 for it if a crazy person comes along with lots of money....Unfortunately, he was right about the "hard to find" thing & I had to buy mine in Chicago & ship it here.

Good luck to you, though.

theres always been a market for Wranglers...no other Chrysler product keeps its value like Wrangler....theres very good demand for them all over the place.

MickyT,
Perhaps you can market to the U.S. as well using autotrader, cars.com, yahoo cars, etc.? I'm looking at a similar 99 SC400 and willing to spend 8-9k if in pristine condition. Your price sounds fair to me. Good luck!

First question....Is that Canadian $ or US$ ($7900)??? Don't know the overall condition of your car or the maintenance history on it. I do know that Vancouver is a very "rich" city. Ton's of young Asians (they love Asian made cars) with what appears to be money to spend. I would say $8000 US is a good place to start (ALWAYS PRICE HIGH) then you can always negoiate downward..if you must. If the car is in real nice shape $6-7 grand, exceptional.. $8 grand with the right buyer.

alot of times In canada the only way to really sell your car is to beat the other guy.

Your price is not ridiculously high but its not low either.

With 130 000 miles it converts to 209 000 ish kilometres.

In canada when a car gets over the 200 000 kilometre mark its demand goes down drastically.

Good luck hope you get a fair price, i honestly dont see you getting $7900 for it.

Rememeber canada never sold sc300's here so that can be a good thing or a bad thing.
