Question A/C Questions

Basically, it's 100* here but I have a company car of the same year that blows ice cold during this weather so I know something is wrong with mine.

Notes:

The compressor chatters every once in a while for a second.

The condensor is free of debris and clean - I'd say 3% of the fins have been bent, if that.

The evaporator in the dash is free and air flow is beyond sufficient

The accumulator/drier doesn't get cold, or sweaty

The low pressure line off the compressor only gets mildy cool, never cold.

I have perfect pressure at the low and high side and it acts as it's supposed to when revving, etc. No blockages indicated on there, no issues with the compressor indicated on there either.

The car starts blowing cold air, when at highway speeds or when the sun goes away and will freeze you out.

The compressor has been changed twice, once to a 93 that the owner didn't tell me was a R12 compressor (luckily had been completely drained so it didn't screw up my system, just messed up a piece inside of it that made it whine, went back to my old R134A compressor that chattered, just changed the clutch out).

The car when the A/C on, causes a pretty big drag on the power train, plus I can feel the engine bay SUPER heat (I measured temp on my timing cover, 140* with it off, 190-200* on the timing cover with A/C on).

I want to say air flow isn't enough, but I've ridden in other SC's with the stock clutch fan and never had issues in this heat.

All cooling is brand new, including clutch fan.

The motor NEVER over heats with the A/C on, just drags it down, I feel like I'm driving a geo metro with the clutch fan engaged almost all the time.

--------

What could be causing this? It's been driving me crazy and I'm tired of sweating my **** off until 2 PM when the sun goes away.

id try a NEW compressor.. especially with the whole drag and cooling problem maybe the compressors shot just hasnt fallen apart yet.. , really no way to tell until you get it out and flush the system out to see if theres any junk in there i bet your like .25 to .50 pounds low on freon as well that explains the daytime cooling issue the humidity
