trading 92 dwp sc4 for 83 corolla wagon. Opinions?
So I have a 1992 dwp sc400, I bought her about two years ago and it's been a never ending project. I'm not working much anymore and focusing on school, so I'm in need of something a little more easier to work on, and better on gas mileage. My buddy has a 1983 Toyota Corolla ( ae71 ) and I'm thinking about trading him. He's throwing $1000.00 on top of the trade.
sc4 pros:
It runs
it's dwp
interior is not horrible
is wired for subwoofers
has wheels and drilled/slotted rotors
5%tint all around
sc4 cons:
Needs a tune up
Steering rack bushings are out
leaks oil and water
has 300,000+ miles
paint needs to be re-done
window seals need work
gas mileage is rediculous
corolla pros:
good gas mileage
rare (in my area at least)
jdm bumpers (not a big deal, but can sell and make cash)
5 speed
original everything. (besides bumpers)
lowered on blocks
celica gt rims
NO RUST
corolla cons:
shocks are blown
front seats have a couple rips
its a 4ac
some kind of bushing is out, makes a wierd vibratiing sound when driving.
Sorry the the tiny pictures
Are parts easy to find for this? do any of you know some common problems that come with having this car?
I would like to do a 4ag swap, re paint it, put it on air bags, and 5% tint all around. I would like to make about 3000, 3500 after i'm done with her. then put a down payment on a newer sc300.

I would keep what ya got honestly, and just save. put the work in that SC and keep her, or Sell her outright and put the money on something else.
My motto is never downgrade unless you absolutely have no other choice. Personally, I love your SC. It may need work and have over 300k, but those motors are 500k+ easy, and leaks are usually easy and relatively inexpensive to repair.
Where is it leakin water from? Oil? And what part of WA are you in? I would be willing to donate some wrench time for you, just to keep you in that beautiful car.

thats nice of you to offer help^^^^
i can understand if finances were tight u needed a car better on gas for a daily beater but your talking about swapping the engine ,putting it on airbags, painting etc.....why its an 83 toyota carolla? Also the crolla needs some work as well from the sounds of it.
sounds a bit ridiculous to me im sorry.

You should trade for the corolla, buy the sounds of it you just barely managed to afford that sc400, and cant afford maintenance. Im only saying that though by the fact that its high mileage and a 92.

I used to be able to afford stuff on my sc, but I'm not working as much, since I am finishing up my optometry degree and it needs my full attention. I wanted to bag the sc,convert black interior, and supercharge the 1uz, but at this rate I don't see it happening.
I heard that the ae71's are pretty rare, but honestly in my opinion, it's a corolla. I like the rarity because down the road it will sell for more.

The engines do run 500k, but not very "easy" lol. it's more like "lucky". You're right though the leaks are relatively easy to repair. but I though about it, I got the spark plugs already ($61.00) Wires will cost $80.00, bushings will cost $45.00-$50.00 + the time to get those darn things in ( which is not easy at all) then another $3000.00 for paint. plus $150 dollars per foor panel because mine are shot. While that's just maintenance. I'll then need to do coilovers or bags, then lip, and whatever is left to do. just really expensive.
I appreciate the offer though, that's really sincere and you should come out to a meet someday, lol.
I would sell it, but who's gonna buy a sc400 with all of these problems with 300,000 on the meter for over $2000.00?

Yeah a 4ag motore is like $500.?? max, bags are $2000, and paint would be $1500. All of this would probably be the cost of just a pint job on the sc..
It does sound rediculous.. lol but given the circumstances it almost seems worth it.
