Default Making cornering lamps into foglights....one way or no?

Ive read a little in the archives on this...but didnt really see anyone who did it this way.
Cant I just wire the lights into the low beam wires and be OK? Personally, I dont think a relay is necessarily needed....the cornering lamps are only 27 watts I believe.....thats not a lot.
Its not as if Im gonna hook both cornerings into just say the left light.....Ill wire left in with left, and right in with right.
Ive done this with previous cars....and been fine. You guys are the experts though, what do you think?

mjr24,

That's what I was planning to do, but I'm not sure how much the stock parker light wires can handle (I'm already at the limit for my headlights... Polarg Miracle Whites putting out 65W). The parkers are designated 5W items, but people in the UK have fitted 10W lights, and people have installed 50W bulbs in the cornering lights (instead of the normal 35W).

If anyone knows if the stock wiring can handle the extra wattage then I'd say to wire the cornering lights with the parkers.

If you did do that wouldt your "fog" lights end up pointing at the sides? Considering they are really cornering lights. I dont know. I dont see it working and looking right, but you may have some other idea.

Could work, but 27 watts? That's pushing it.... I'd be safe and run a battery relay anyway.

Here is what I did after the 95 Fog light swap fell apart.

On my 92 SC300 I wired the Orange Side marker to the Regular blinker. Then I wired the Turn Lights into foglights from the Orange marker's wires.

So... My Psuedo fog lights turn on from the parking lights. I really think that using the headlight wire is a bad idea because they carry so many watts as is. Also, I really didn't add a load to the parking light harness because I unplugged one, added one. Lastly, the blinker harness will not fry cause it is never on, and when it is, it is BLINKING.

If you pull the headlights out...this can be accomplished in 5minutes....

Eh....the fog lights dont, well cornering lights, dont really look real obvious from the sides. They would still look bright from the front if you used them as fog lights.
Maybe Ill try the relay...when Lex printed that procedure I was just so lost in what he was doing and saying with the terminology that I didnt want to bother with it, but I dont want to rig something bad up.

Default Do a search...

Do a search about people ruining their wiring harness by using overwattage bulbs (100w) for brighter lights. The stock wires just arent up to it and will melt/fuse together shorting out and causing a whole load of other problems.

Hooking up a relay shouldnt take long.... and its better to be safe than sorry.

Toan.
