If your car has a defective or already deteriorating MAF chances are by replacing the MAF with a new one will regain some of that performance and economy you have lost.

However is true for many car makers if you replace a MAF with a larger diameter, you could increase the power a little further. The 240sx guys tend to get MAFs from Z32/R32-34/ even the mustang 3.5 inch diameter MAF provided a increase in low end TQ on the dyno.

How it pans out for the SC300/SC400 im not to sure, I haven't done a search on it yet.

I know the v8 MAF has a larger housing and is a direct plug in on the 2jz motor

I also know that the 2jz guys can upgrade to 440cc injectors and the 1uz MAF for a quick and easy power upgrade and if you have a SAFC you can maximize the performance boost

Is there anything like that, that the SC400 people can do?

Default comparison

guys i bought a new fmz3ayy2(a working one) an compared it to fmz3ayy1 an heres how she shapes up.

fmz3ayy2
pros:
super smooth ride
smooth shift
clean engine sound
50-100 soft peddle easy acceleration

cons:
lag from take off
lag from getting off her then getting back on her

fmz3ayy1
pros:
very powerful(normal feels like power, power feel like u r driving a truck)
1-3 gear shift is fast(acceleration is night an day)
down shift so quick that at high speed u can get off her then back on with no lag!!!!!
mpg
50-100 harder peddle but feels like u r in complete control of car

cons:
engine sound
feel road more but still pretty smooth
down shift hard as hell when coming to complete stop or coming down a hill

Will the V8 MAF work on the 98 SC300?

the thing about the 1uz maf on another motor is not the sensor, but the size of the housing. the jz/7m housings are about 1/8-1/4 inch smaller diameter. larger diameter=more air in. upgrade the injectors at the same time, or you'll go lean, really, really badly.
7mgte and 1uz sensors are the same. I believe the 2jzgte has the same sensor, too but haven't worked on one to be sure.

How would the maf affect how much of the road you feel?

Easiest way to test a MAF is simply to unplug your battery for an hour.

Your ECU will reset and have to take new readings. If it runs the same, your maf is good. If it runs like crap your maf is bad. The ECU runs off the cache memory in the ECU for it's baseline settings, it only adjusts fine increments from the MAF as you drive. When it has to completely reset, it won't come back alive so well if the MAF is in bad shape.
