Post New SC in town.

Hi everybody, the name is Tyler and I live in San Clemente, CA. I recently purchased a 1992 Midnight Indigo Pearl SC400 with only 101,000 original miles, and I look forward to becoming a part of the community. I absolutely love my SC, however I have a few concerns that I would like to ask you guys about. I promise that I searched, but didn't find much.

1) Engine ticking. I have changed oil, always have used premium fuel, tried fuel system cleaner, etc. No help. I know this is either a lifter, injectors, or valves?

2) The "Trac" light has been coming on after driving for 5-10 minutes, and just recently the "Brake" light has begun to flash and go away. (I searched this and found info on the Trac light, but not together with the brake light.)
I should mention that my brakes are squeaking and aren't as strong, this probably means just to get my brakes done?

The only modification that I bought the car with was coilovers, and it is on very moderate height/dampening setting.

Pictures to follow, and thanks everyone!
-Tyler

I apologize, if a moderator could please move this to the introduction section, that'd be great. I didn't know if this should go here due to the mechanical problems mentioned or not.

Thanks, I'll have to try that and see if it helps. By the way everyone, is 8J5 a fairly common color, or is it somewhat rare?

^ yup, just top off the fluid and that'll get rid of the break light. I had a TRAC light in my old '95, never figured it out unfortunately.
Engine ticking is normal. We had a discussion about it last meet with a buncha ISX50 guys, they have the ticking too, its a specific part of the engine, cant remember exactly what though..

I think that will end up being the brake light fix. I'm at work and just went outside and checked the brake fluid, it is very near the Min. line.

welcome,

you might as well set aside a few hours and a couple hundred bucks to get some basic maintenance out of the way....

a lot less headache in the long run...

Thanks. I am still a tad confused as to the color of the car. The door says 8J5, but it looks a little lighter than most Midnight Indigo's I have seen pictures of. Maybe it all depends on the lighting? hah.

My '92 made a ticking noise, I was told it was the valves. The stealership quoted me 1k to readjust the valves. Needless to say I declined their generous offer and decided to live with the slight clatter, which never got any worse.

My local Lexus dealership quoted me $2600 just in labor, not including any gaskets or shims. No thank you!!! I'm hoping when I decide to do an exhaust setup that it will mask a little of the noise and won't be so noticeable.
