They do start the cars in Japan before they are cut. They document mileage and attach the VIN plate to the motor

They mark bad motors and sell them as spare parts.

This is from the jhot website-

Currently we have no new containers or inventory arriving from Japan.

Im pretty sure there are other importers guys.

Suprastore still have jdm 2jz and 1jz motors for sale.

And zerolift does have motors, but the shop that my car is at keeps having trouble with them. Thats why its not done yet they say, so id probably stay away from them.

I'm not sure if the 1jz is DBW or not.
Yes they are and I hate it. It's the biggest let down of the VVTi change.

and yota is still making complete vvti off the shelf for 4200.00 complete
Reference? That seems cheaper than rebuilding my current VVTI 1J.

Common sense would say that's correct... there shouldn't be any differences with importing identical engines from two separate countries. I'd check up on the DMV and customs websites to see what the deal is, even getting into contact with a freight forwarder or something to see if they may know the revised laws.

Common sense..... Thing is, I have recently checked on the subject of half cuts, and although they say that you can import engines that were avail stateside, i think that the importers bring them in as parts, or off-road only engines. Thats what i am trying to verify.

There's an abundant amount of JDM 2JZ engines on ebay. That's where I got mine.

Nagasaki motors isnt exactly "cheap". Maybe you got two shops confused? Also, your post confuses me as your not too clear. So your telling me that you talked to 1 guy last night, and now you cross off a shop from your list on 1 review? This is the first I have heard bad about them.

I believe that there are good importers and terrible importers, but I also know that not all engines may turn out, or be delivered in good shape for one reason or another. I did read some more reviews before posting this, mainly from nico club as I value the opinion there a lot, and 95% were good, 3% were shipping damage, and 2% were bad on nagasaki's part.

Saying that, it seems that the 2JZGTE (non VVTI) should be the viable option for you guys then.

The price for the 1JZ VVTI, even at $4500, is still reasonable considering it's new, if I can't sort out what I wanted to do with my original engine I think I'll just swap in a new one. Much less headaches

Can someone link to this $4500 fully assembled engine from Toyota? Or you do have to call and give some secret code word before they admit they have them? If anything, I believe that you can get a SHORTBLOCK for $4500, but not a complete engine. More info please!
