Bent Wheel??
I am looking for some wheels for my SC300. I don't think that my wheels/tires should cost close to what the car is worth. I don't mind buying used. However, many of the used wheels for sale seem to have that little "hardly noticeable" bent area on the outer lip of one of the tires.
I have heard conflicting opinions about these small bent areas. Some say it causes very noticeable roughness at certain speeds, and others say you that can't feel a small bend at all.
Should I stay away from wheels with a small visible bend? It seems that my choices are to either get a brand new, fairly inexpensive set of wheels for $800-1200.00, or buy a "better quality" used set for the same amount of money, and take a chance on getting a bad wheel or two in the set.
What 's the verdict????

Drawing on my own personal experiences, any type of irregularity in a wheel, no matter the size, is going to cause you headaches.
I had 2 very very slight flat spots in my fronts, I must've hit something again (damn freeway roadworks) and air leaks out of one of the tyres. There's no visible damage to the tyre though so who knows, it's a pity because the fronts are only about 6000km old.

Stay far away from bent or repaired wheels.
Small cracks are not a big deal. Just "out of round" wheels..
"Out of round" wheels can be fixed, sure, but they will always be wavy. They WILL VIBRATE.
I tried 3 times. 1 HRE bent inner barrel (3 piece), 1 I Forged (Bent lip), and a set of MAYA wheels who I bought from a a liar CL member on here not too long ago. Had to replace the barrels. They were all screwed after repair. wavy as hell. I have NEVER had an "out of round" wheel turn out well. I have been to shops in SD and LA that are supposedly top notch. They tell you the same thing. Yea $100 for repair "out of round" wheel but still may vibrate a little. Screw that! Drive around with forever vibrating steering wheel? No thanks!
Once an "out of round" wheel has been repaired its wavy. it will always be screwed. Despite what all the "experts" on here say.
That's the beauty of 3 piece. If you bend the lip or barrel you can replace just that part.

Repairing an OOR wheel will be one of those moments you'll regret after you take all the time, money & trouble to get a wheel repaired and you'll be driving down the road with the steering wheel vibrations and you'll be pissed you were a cheap ***.

I'd say it depends on the bend. Many can be fixed. If you go used, definately make sure the ride is ok and that it balances out. I've had a few wheels years ago that have been repaired, mostly the lip areas. Hope this helps

As I posted up what I said is based on my own personal experiences. I wouldn't go off fixing any (any=every) form of bend that a wheel can suffer, pending the severity. There are times when it seems it's better to replace the shell.

If you decide to go with these wheels with the bent lip. Please take pictures and post up how the repair was. Cost & outcome. We need a wheels repair thread. There's lots on who to go to for wheel repair but none of the actual results and reviews on the different shops.
