I'd like to thank ScJz and friends for the wheel tilt tutorial. Very complete and works perfectly! My gear was perfect except it had slid inward letting the worm gear chomp of just the corners. Pushed it out w/ a washer of the right size, cleaned and re-greased and it works like new!! Very Thankful for the Forum!!!

Props on the DIY but I have a quick question. If the 10mm bolt that hold the gear keeps spinning when I try to loosen it does that mean my gear teeth are stripped to low? Im trying to get the bolt off and just keeps turning doesnt come loosen up.

What does it mean when my steering wheel only moves when the key is inserted but when I try to move it, it only moves a tiny bit in every direction, then when I try to move it back to where it was it stop working? Is there a fuse I can try to replace because I've already does this DIY a loooong time ago and this problem just happened a few days ago.

Got mine fixed today thanks to this thread, thanks.

FYI, if any of you are hearing clicking noises when you tilt your steering, it means the gear is about ready to slip away from the worm gear and will not move anymore.

Literally just finished doing this right now and it works like new!!!! THank you so much for your write up. You REALLY have to wiggle the two paper clips to get that gear out of there...almost gave up!!! haha

Just did it to my 97 sc300 and it works like a charm, took me about 45-minutes, used a lock washer that's split, used a large screwdriver to pry it open so it would fit over that stud and DONE :-) Thanks y'all!

Default Thanks!

Thank you for this post! My battery died the other day and when I got it charged up the wheel was stuck in the all the way up position. Im 5'4 so this is not a comfortable driving position for me. This looks like a really simple fix! So again, thank you!
