Default Anyone running a thicker HG on a NA 2jz?

I had my headgasket replaced with a 1.4mm HG a few weeks ago and just started driving it today, has anyone else tried this? The car feels quite a bit slower, but seems to be getting way better mpg. And since the compression is lowered, 87 octane should be useable, right? any thoughts/experiences?

87 is usable on stock comp. just not suggested..but yes with probably 9:1cr now it wont have any problems on 87...and typically people dont do this unless they plan to boost later on for the obvious reason of loss of power.

I do plan on boosting the car, I have most of the parts already, just need a few more. The MPG seems to be better than before, or its just going from the truck I was driving to this.

how bad is it really to use 87 octane with the stock 1uz?

To be honest i use 89 most of the time and i dont have any issues at all.

I know i should be using 91 or higher.

Please let me know.

really its not going to hurt the motor because it has a knock sensor ..and it'll adjust accordingly if any detonation begins to take place..
the only downside is that its possible to get bad gas..then you might run into some issues..

however ive been running 87 for a little while on my 2jz-ge since money has been down lately and gas went up a good bit in the last month or so..no issues so far

I only fill up at QT so bad gas will never be an issue.

lower compression actually means worst mpg, not better.

the only advantage is that you can run 87 without much knock/pinging from the engine under heavy load.

Thicker won't damage, but thinner could.

NA = Naturally Aspirated (or Normally Aspirated if you prefer)

as opposed to any form of FI, or Forced Induction (ie. turbo, blower, etc.)

IMHO, you should always put the proper gas in the engine. If a person can't afford the difference between regular and premium, then maybe they shouldn't have the car in the first place.
