How to get a great fitting black carpet for around $35
I've tried everything to get a black carpet in my car. I've tried painting it with duplicolor, SEM, fabric dye, and eventually throwing that away and getting a 350z carpet to mutilate and fit (it didn't).
After looking for literally years for a great fitting OEM black carpet, I found a seller on ebay that sells black carpet, by the yard for around $9 a yard. I took a cue from another member and just got an OEM carpet (gray), and cut the black carpet to fit and glued it on.
I used 3M Super 77 adhesive (2 cans), but anything that bonds fabric will work well. The carpet has no latex backing, and it has enough give in it to conform to any contours.
I got a 80" x 108" roll of fabric for $35 shipped, and I ended up using about 60% of it. I guess I can use the rest for a custom trunk setup.
I took some pics, but I didn't take have a chance to photograph the finished product because it got dark and started to rain. I'll take some pics when there's more light outside.
Let me know what you think!

I can always touch up any spots with glue. Right now it looks 100 percent OEM and it cost me less than 2 $20 bills.

wow this is a great thread, thank you! Can you explain a little bit more on what exactly was used in your custom installation and maybe some links on where it was all acquired?
Thank you!
Thank you!

I laid out the material beforehand, then glued small sections at a time to adjust and compensate for any stretch going on.
After you're done with the initial layout, cut all the holes for the seat belt brackets and seat bolts and you're good to go.
I also fixed a few things while I had everything apart. I cleaned up some wiring, replaced the kick panel light, adjusted my e-brake, and installed more sound deadening to reinforce what was already there.
