Default Thinking about making a change

Hello everyone, so I've been driving my SC400 around now for a little shy of a year and am now thinking about buying a 300 to build as opposed to my 400.

At the time I was looking for a SC after I totaled my 1st Gen. GS300 and felt that I absolutely HAD to have the v8 after experiencing the 2jzge already (I LOVE v8 rumble). However after doing some research I've realized it is incredibly pricey to build or boost the 1uz to respectable levels. I'll just use the $1400 price tag just for cams as an example.

If I do decide to do this, I would most likely go NA-T.

If anyone who has done this feels like chiming in for advice, please do so!

I am curious about things such as the GTE style intake manifold and such.

how much power are you looking for? do you want to have a stick or auto. those kinds of things will help figure out which motor would be best for you.

Well after I get out of the SC game I will be buying a C5 Corvette, as my cousin has a Procharged C5 making ~525 on the SC alone and I fell in love with it.

However I wanted to give the SC a good shot before I make the swap over to a C5.

I would prefer to keep in auto, as this is what I was planning on doing in the C5 (TT auto)

-------

Okay as I am typing this it makes me realize I should just keep my 400 as a daily of sorts and save the money I would use to mod it or another SC and just use it for a C5.

Do some more research. To provide boost on a GE engine with quality parts is easily $3,000.00.

Anyone that says "I BUILT A TURBO KIT FOR $1,500" is either lying or doesn't know what the hell they're talking about. I bought every single NA-T part and realized the cost wasn't worth the sacrifice so I just gave up. If you want a faster car, save up some money and do it right. If you don't have the capability to save up money, buy another car that is already fast and lighter.

I think your best bet would be to save up for a c5. Ls motors are stupid cheap to make big power with and they can hold that power all day long. The only way you could come close to that capability for the price would be to pick up an sc that's already been gte swapped. I say save your money, wait till the right c5 comes up for sale and have fun with it.
If you do decide to stay in the sc game, do some research, really look around. You can make power for a modest price on these cars, you just have to know where to spend your money.

Tabaka, I wasn't saying I want a cheap turbo lol. The TT kit for the C5 I'm going to be buying is 5600.

I mean I would swap to a boosted JZ for that. Even then, you'll save money by not buying another SC by just getting a whole new motor for like 2k.

What about an LS swap? It wouldn't cost too much and you would be able to make big power and build the motor for cheap.

I am considering it, but could buy a Trans Am for the cost of a swap and wayyyyyy less effort.
