Question SC400 power steering vacuum source

about a month back I eliminate the vacuum source that screws into the powersteering line connecting to the powersteering pump. The peice itself looks like a screw with 2 vacuum tubes. The reason I eliminated it is because the vac tubes where broken off. I though about repairing it but it would be risky, went to the dealership for a new one.... $130+

can someone please tell me if this is needed? ive been driving with it plugged, and no problems with p/s until now. Now the p/s fluid is overflowing out of the reservoir....

i have no clue if the vac source has anything to do with this, but that would be my first guess. It might be the res cap for all I know at this point.

thanks alot

Post some pictures of what you have plugged. We can determine some more troubleshooting methods possibly.

I just got done working on the car some more, cleaned up the PS hoses and surrounding areas.

Turns out there are no visible leaks in the power steering.. YET. except the reservoir is still overflowing... i know its sucking up air SOMEWHERE because it has bubbles coming from out of the reservoir. Im going to drive it for a while and see if i can detect another leak.

any advise would be great about this vacuum piece I plugged up

Search around here a bit, I'm positive I've read more that a few threads about frothing/foaming PS fluid when vacuum lines were reversed or something like that. Use Advanced search ftw!

Nothing about this vacuum source on these forums. None that I could find anyways.

I really need to know about this piece though. I have it plugged.... but do i NEED it???

at this point I think its the power steering pump just needs replacement. Its making a whining sound during turns. I cant find any leaks, yet the reservoir constantly over flows due to bubbles(i guess)

bottom line: should I keep it plugged, or buy a new one for the arm and a leg price that the lexus dealership is asking.

the whinning sound is usually because the unit is not getting the fluid. Did you check for a pinched hose? My own was doing the same (minus the bubbling from the res) and i found out my hose was ripped (the one going from the res to the ps pump and I just ordered a new one from Toyota. I plugged the vac hose up with a screw and called it a day. Havent used it in about 6 months and no leaks...

I am running a 2JZGTE thou...dont know if that makes a difference. I know my res is leaking because of the gasket in the stock res cap being hardend over...but I refuse to pay the stealership $130 for a new one.
