Antenna Mast Install

Antenna Mast Install
So today I decided to install the new antenna mast that I've had forever. The old piece broke inside so I opened up the motor and took the old cable out.
When installing the new mast I did the method here on lexls.com where he installs the cable and coils it up in the motor while you have it open. I got everything installed, and the antenna goes up all the way just fine, and I get great reception. But it will not go back down all the way. So I tried installing it the other method where you slide the cable in while shutting off the radio. It still leaves a good portion of the mast up.
Any ideas? I'm just hoping I don't have to open up that greasy antenna motor again.
