Default Trans is jerking, car is over heating and running rich?

Alright, so these are 3 different issues, first is the transmission. car: 94 sc400

The transmissions seems to hit some sort of turning point at 43mph, its prefectly fine until that number, when it hits 43mph, the gas pedal loosens up, and every time you push it in, it makes a little jerk and can only go at about 50% throttle. when you let off the pedal, it also jerks. It's like it's not shifting into 4th/od.

Second is the overheating. As the car idles, it over heats, as soon as you drive it, it drops to prefect temperature, I mean the second you get on the road it drops, the mechanics discovered there was no thermostat, which kind of explains this, they also said it needed a new radiator and is leaking a bit of antifreeze from a remote locations (probably going to be the water pump, ****.)

third: running rich, so the previous owner, who was a scum bag liar, sold the car with ONE issue listed, the car was running poorly because of some electrical issue, basicly no spark on half the engine, he said he let the cats get red hot due to the raw fuel being dumped in, well I fixed that issue with a new ignition coil and the on set of issues started. I think since he let the cats get red hot, they're ruined, likely the O2 censors are as well.

Any help is appreciated, especially the transmission issue.

check resistance on the3 oxy sensors first before you replace. if cats are bad it will throw a code first. check timing to make sure its dead on. clean maf sensor and codes coming up? transmission fluid should be checked is it a nice clear red or a deep dark blood red? dose it smell burnt anything suspendind is the fluid? do a transmission fluid change and use the toyota aft only dont mix and dont add any anti slip lucus products or anything like that.

if the transmission still acts funny see if you can get it to run smoother buy going 1 to 2 to 3 then go to drive if that works trans is find could be the control module? some say their cars ran rich untill they did a ecu swap. my car ran rich so i changed plugs wires cam and crank sensors maf and new filter timing was .5 a tooth off. took off the crank pully the reluctor was bad replaced it and the car runs great now it was a 30 doallr part. mine is a 190K 1994 sc400

good luck any questions please pm me any time

For the overheating, make sure that you do not have any leaks in your fan fluid reservoir or tubing. Don't forget to check the levels.

I don't think a missing thermostat would cause overheating. In fact, it should reduce it. I would think.

it is throwing a code(s), but the code readers are having issues with connecting to the car.

Sounds more to me like one issue with lots of consequences as a result all pointing towards the ECU's ability to regulate the car.

Only some cars allow the use of OBDI scanners. For your car, you can probably use the paperclip method to get those codes.

The Snap-On MT2500 gives advanced reading on an SC. See if you can find anyone with one locally.

Man, my friend really got a lemon, 10 owners should of thrown up a flag before he bought it. I'll see if a local shop has the snap on reader.

Most shop should have it. The MT2500 is probably the standard scanner of all OBD1 system. I'd be surprised if you can't find a shop without one.
