Default Question on Targa top

Does anyone know how much it would cost to do a targa top on an SC? Or how much it cost to do convertible?

...well, this may not be as informative as that last post, but here's a pic to show to your favorite body shop. More details at: http://209.125.175.29/ :

$10,000 for drop top. Do a search. They talked about it on here I think a year ago.

http://www.newportconvertible.com

They want $9k to do the conversion, they're in Placentia, CA. They do all the frame strentghning and everything that's required, not a bad price for the work they do. They've done a TON of cars, look at their gallery.

There's two SC conversions they've already done posted on their site...

would it be possible to get it as a hardtop convertible or just a removable hardtop?

I'm sure they could also do a targa removable top, and it should be much cheaper since there's no convertible top to create and motorize. Give them a call Monday and see what they say!

As a matter of fact, that's basically what I'm looking at. I'm planning to do a removeable roof, but keep the sunroof too. Basically I'll splice one of those cool ball-bearing power connectors onto the roof part and the frame part, so when the roof is reattached the sunroof again has power. Also the car will have a roll cage, so I'm not worried that much about structure rigidity up top in case of a flip over. I will be strengthing the undercarriage to be able to handle a ton of power without twisting.

You mean sort of what used to be in the viper??? The rear window stays, and you sort of just remove the top part of the roof?? Also like a sport roof on the Supra?

I had gotten a quote from my body shop guy here in NJ do put a targa roof on my 92 Mustang. At the time, I figured it might be about $800 or so, but he explained that the reinforcements (both removing the factory and building up around the targa roof) as well as all of the manual work would cost me closer to $2000 to $2500.

Actually, though, that does not seem so bad. My Stang is a drag race car now, so I would not put the roof in it, and my Coupe has a moonroof that I would have trouble living without. However, if I had an SCx00 without a moonroof, I would think this would look great! Not only would it set the car apart from the (few) others on the road, it would also be safer from theives and vandalism than a (soft) convertible top.

Ah, I remember how the 3rd generation Supras looked with that Targa roof (the one's just before the Fast & The Furious body style) ... totally sweet!!!

I am in Central NJ, but this guy is in NorthWest NJ ... the place is called Dale's Custom Auto in Hackettstown NJ. He does amazing body work, as well as painting (he even does several NHL goalie helmets). Definitely be sure to ask specifically for Dale (the owner) if you call.

Here is a link with the directions from you (though it will not take you as much time as the site says it will):
