Quick Test Start!

Thanks AliSC3!

looks and sounds great!! Congrats. I love how fast the factory ecu's start up even when the battery is a little low. looks like you just need to button up the little stuff now and should be driving in no time.

Buttoning is almost done!!
Shooting for Saturday with no issues!

All thats left:
finish the TT brakes
Bleed brakes
Bleed clutch
Install solid diff bushings
Install LSD
Find a better solution for gauges (pillar pods not fitting well)
AC resistor
Solder connections now that the car is running
Fluids for diff and trans
Test drive and check for leaks
Dyno
YESSSS!

Guys,
I noticed the tach is not working. I have a 95' 5 Speed and Aristo ECU. Do we need the jumper on the tach board behind the gauge? Could there be a different issue?

What speed sensor do you have on your R154 buddy ?

check driftmotions' Marlin Crawler VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor , it is less than $50 . That is more likely your issue !

Gerrb,
The I purchased the speed sensor for the R154 from a guy that had an MKIII R154. Would this one work? Same guy i got the slave/master etc. The stuff had only 500 miles, he went built auto. Is there anything else that would break the tach?

Thanks,
Tony

I think the difference between the mkIII and driftmotion is the supra one is mechanical and the driftmotion one is electrical. The 95 might have a funky gauge cluster but you should be able to look it up. If its like the normal 2jzgte it will need a small jumper on one of the resistors behind the cluster.

SG - I would suggest move this discussion of your tach to your build thread so we don't crap / hijack our buddy Ali's ECU Mod thread.

If you have that marlin speed sensor from Driftmotion already ... then wiring is the only thing I can think of . You already have a 5 speed gauge cluster since it was an original 5 speed car.

You can feel free to clutter this thread as much as you guys want with this stuff.

You do have to do the tach mod when doing the tt ecu mod. its because the newer multicoil toyota ignitors all have a tach signal like a gte ignitor so yes on yours you would pull out the clutser and jump the one resistor, I forget what it is but I did it on mine. Tach will read 0 until you do that, then it will work perfectly once jumped.

I think you jump the R109 resistor on 92-94 clusters, and the R73 resistor on 95-96 clusters. same as when doing a gte swap.
good time to change any bulbs that were out. on my 95 my cluster has only had one bulb go out on (knocks on wood).

^^^ thanks buddy !

Just to add on what Ali said for the newer gauge clusters 97 .. jump resistor R2

Ali, do you think that the tach mod is worthy of first page status. Not much pops up in a "TT ECU MOD + Tach not working" search. It may help others.

Hopefully will have tach tonight!

Yeah you are probably right I should stick it somewhere on the first page. I guess I can make it its own number.
I always forget cause most guys who are used to swapping have seen it before.

*edit*
alright the tt ecu mod just earned another step, so enjoying your car is now step 10 lol

Step 9: Tach mod to get tachometer reading again with new ignitor
the 3 channel (vvti) and 6 channel (gte) ignitors put out a different tach signal than the stock 1 channel ignitor (distributor).
to get it working again remove the cluster and you need to jump a resistor with a short piece of wire (bypassing it).
easiest is to just solder each side of the wire to each of the legs of the resistor going into the board (you don't have to remove resistor in case you ever want to go back just cut wire).

its the same thing you would do if you were doing a gte swap.
jump the R109 resistor on 92-94 clusters, and the R73 resistor on 95-96 clusters.
for the newer gauge clusters 97 .. jump resistor R2 (Thanks for the info Gerrb!)
Studio, don't forget to do step 8 since you still have the stock intake manifold. ACIS will spool your turbo quicker, its good stuff.
