My Front License Plate Mount for AutoCouture / Shine Auto Project Bumper
I recently got a ticket for no a front plate for parking my car in front of my own apartment overnight. Pretty ridiculous but I had to come up with a way to mount a front plate without drilling into the front of my bumper to get the ticket signed off. The OEM 1997+ plate holder would not cut it as it required me to drill through the front of the bumper.
I anticipated getting a ticket so I had Makito from Shine Auto installed two rivet nuts into the bottom of the bumper so I can just slap on some L-brackets when I needed to mount on the ugly front plate
For those that don't know what I rivet nut is, here is illustration of what a rivet nut is:
The advantage of using a rivet nut is that it is a lot more secure than just a screw through fiberglass/frp and a lot easier to take off than using a bolt secured with a nut on the opposite side. It is just a simple screw on and screw off to securely install the plate mount.
So instead of using an L-bracket, I found a plate mount at AutoZone for $10 bucks and modified it to fit. The middle part of the bracket had to be cut out with a band saw to clear the vertical piece in the grill.
Voila, the ugly front plate can be mounted in a matter of minutes perfectly centered and flat against the bumper to get the ticket signed off.
Just be sure to slap on a strip of blue masking tape behind the plate to prevent it from getting scratched up.

Not so here in Illinois. Plate has to be mounted. I had mine in my front windshield for a while when I first got my SC because I didn't want to drill the holes either, but I eventually got a ticket. Ended up using the exact same setup as xknowonex. Good, clean solution.

looks really clean. Im for sure gonna try to do that to my sc.
I got pulled over last night actually for a headlight being out. Got a fix it ticket. It was a faulty ballast that made the hid turn on and off at random. It wasn't the sc though, it was my volvo.
Not trying to thread jack, but if you get your car inspected for lets say one thing, can they get you on other things when inspecting your car?
Like for example if you go get inspected for the plate, can they get you for tint, illegal exhaust mod, or any other thing even though the ticket only says your front plates were the problem?
Im worried cause my volvo is not up to being completely legal.
