SC300 5-speed: Weird ticking noise, goes away when clutch is depressed
Hey guys,
My 1994 SC300 5-speed, when idle, makes a weird ticking noise.
Definitely sounds like a belt of some sort.
However, when I even tap the clutch in a little, the noise disappears.
Does anyone know what could be wrong?
I'm looking to get my 60k service and timing belt done very soon, but I had no idea of any belt associated with the clutch pedal.
let me know if you have any suggestions/ideas.
Thanks

I had that same exact problem a while back. It was the idler pulley on the belts. Make sure the sound seems to come from the front of the engine, just below the cams....you'll see the idler right there. Click click click click....really fast sometimes, and as soon as I would start goin or change engine RPM's, it went away. Part is like $175 from the dealer :/

Thanks for the response guys...
CmputrWhiz, what you describe sounds a lot like what I'm observing, and I sincerely hope it is *only* a $175 fix....what Lex Luthor said sounds a lot scarier *yikes*...
This problem doesn't happen all the time, usually when the car is completely warmed up. Gear in neutral, foot off clutch, something in the engine will make a ticking noise. Even slight depression of the clutch pedal will eliminate the noise.
Sounds like it is coming from the driver side front of the engine.
Any other possibilities of what it can be?
