Default Lighter won't work (checked everything!)

What could be the issue?
I've checked all the fuses; they're good.
I've taken apart the dash, and checked the lighter itself - Nothing.
What could it be???

I don't need the lighter, but I'd like to be able to use my phone charger and I can't.
Eventually when Im finished the audio system, I wanna wire the GPS' power-cable to the lighter, so it comes on when the car starts. I can't figure out what the deal is with this thing.

Help???

Have you tried a different lighter? If not, purchase one they are very inexpensive.

Yeah, but why would I have to; what could be wrong with this one? All the wiring was intact.

I agree with Joe. I've had problems like this before and a new lighter plug fixed things

Had the same problem with the lighter not wanting to work but the fuses kept burning out upon replacing them. Could not find any electrical issues.... till I stared at the inside of the lighter. There was a penny sitting flat into the base of the lighter. Guess the previous owner kept coins nearby. (non-smoker here)

Default Lighter woes

Dunno if a previous thread is on this forum, but I've had to repair both a 98 GS400 and a 99 RX300 when I tried to plug my father's O2 concentrator into the lighter plug(s).

IME, Toyota may have done a "belt and suspenders" type engineering on the lighter sockets. They have a "wafer" type fuse? that blew with the ~7 amps the concentrator wanted (or its initial surge). Disassemble and repair with a serrated washer or some such. The fuse panel fuse may very well be good. Explicitly, take apart the socket's positive terminal.

Also, my $0.02:, get a cheap DMM and -see- what is actually showing for voltages. It also has a ohm meter to check the ground impedence, which is half the equation. Harbor Ft's freebies are worth what you pay for them....

Of course, I agree the first attempt should be to plug in a different device and check the mini fuse in the panel.
