Default sc300 power limits... transmission

I'm looking at picking up an sc300 and doing a turbo'd engine swap. I'm just curious about the transmission limits.

How much power can you safely make before running into transmission issues?
What's the limits of the stock 5spd?

Thanks,
Em

I've been searching for the last hour or so, and have yet to come up with anything even remotely definitive.

I've seen numbers ranging from 190whp to 500whp.

Do you happen to have a link where I can read up some more on the power limits of the trans? What are the weak points? Can you possibly point me in the direction of where I can find some more information about this? I have not had much luck searching... I very well may be using the wrong terms, but all I keep coming across is "how many 5spds are there, I have a 5spd sc for sale, etc, etc".

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try "w58 vs r154" in the sc3/4 performance section. If you don't get the info you need let me know and I'll give you a rundown.

300-400(if your lucky) with the stock auto
500-550 like hyjaxx said.

each will vary depending on previous abuse and maintenance though. the a340/1 both have their weak points, but have simple mods to increase the HP limit. The w58 and r154 have been noted to handle 500+hp, but both have success and failure stories behind them.

Then the V160...well enough said..if you have $5k+ to throw into a 6-speed swap and plan on BIG numbers go for it..or the TH350(?)

I'll repost what I said in the thread I told you to go read.
Here's your choices from lowest price to highest price
~~~W58- first time you miss a shift in a 500hp car you're gonna need a new tranny.
~~~R154- $1200=1200hp marlin crawler tranny. People have gotten lucky but I say no stock 154 on over 600hp.
~~~Built Auto- Do your research and have a local tranny shop build an auto to your specs. It's pretty cheap and very effective.
~~~Th350- th400's weaker, malnourished little brother. LOL
~~~Boostlogic's built auto- NA holds like 600-700. TT holds more- lots of the better track boys are running the tt. Some people have had a bunch of great seasons with these- other people had issues. BL has since put out a how-to sheet so that the driver won't do things improperly and break it. Both require a core.
~~~TH400- Automatic 3sp...up to 1700hp depending on who's building it. I have this- it kicks like a mule and chirps 2nd all the time. Go with Sound Performance over the other companies so you won't have fitment issues and it won't cost you a fortune.
~~~V160- it'll hold more than you can throw at it. Needs a $5k Tilton clutch. If you think you aren't going to push enough HP to need a Tilton then save your $ and buy a 154 because you don't NEED a v160. It's only above the TH400 if you include the Tilton.
~~~4L80e- Auto w/overdrive...holds 1600hp depending on who's building it.

I beleive all the sc300 can with the auto or the w-58.
The r-154 came from the 86-92 supra and the v160 comes on the 93-98 turbo supra, 93-98 na supra also has a w58 and auto. .

And the TT Supra's auto is beefier than the NA supra's auto.
The TH400 is a Chevy tranny.
Not sure on the 4L80e.

You don't have to drive like you're racing every day, but it has to be able to stand some kind of abuse.

I would not go over 450hp ona w58.
