hey guys, just got my is300 steering wheel (with the e-shift buttons) and airbag combo. Besides swapping the airbag connector (or getting the adapter). Do you have to swap the blue connector and cruise control module to have cruise control working? You can't just plug in the new, white connector, right? Also, what did you do with the ground clip? Is it necessary or did you also swap out that connector to clip onto the IS300 wheel?

The IS wheel looks good, but when it comes to $300 no way I couldnt spend that much for a used wheel. On the side note you could get a nice sparco wheel with the hub and youre jdm tight yo!

but then you won't have an airbag, and you won't have cruise control.

black IS steering wheel > aftermarket racing steering wheel.

I agree, plus the IS300 steering wheels are smaller diameter and feel good in the hand. I just never liked the aftermarket wheels in our cars unless there has been engine and body work to go along with at... And if it's actually tracked.

Single stage 3 spoke from GS is the best OEM option IMO......unless you can get this rare beast:

Hey guys do you know where I can get an airbag for the IS300 steering wheel to be used on an SC400 for a good price? And what would I need to do to get it to work in my SC?

I tried a local yard but I got both my 2001 MR2 steering wheel and IS300 airbag on ebay. And I bought the airbag adaptor convertor from SPX Corporation.

Unless you luck out in the classified section of a Toyota/Lexus forum, just try ebay. I didn't pay the best prices but I got clean parts.

To preserve the leather wrapped look, any of these wheels will work:

2001-2005 IS300 (manual ver. has no shift buttons)
2001-2005 Matrix XRS / Corolla XRS / MR2 (all exactly the same)

And airbags from any of those models and the 1998-2000 (I think) Rav4 airbag.

You swap over your original cruise control. Just a note about this: not all of the Toyota XRS/MR2 wheels came with cruise control. I had to measure out and cut my wheel backing plate because Toyota does not sell that part separately (go figure). Reuse one of the original screws that mounted the SC300/400 cruise stalk onto the original steering wheel hub by using a screw tap on one of the pre-made holes on the newer three spoke non-cruise control wheel.

Use a 5mm x 0.80 metric tap on the one hole that lines up with your cruise stalk's upper mount loop. It is a very cheaply obtained part online. A hand crank can work. I used a drill. Be careful and precise if you use a drill. Drill in slowly, then reverse the drill's rotation and back off slowly and evenly-- you are creating grooves so take care when doing this. Reuse the SC300/400 cruise stalk mounting screw from the original SC wheel.

Also, the horn ground swaps over very easily. There is a spot on all the three spoke wheels for the ground wire but it is fitted differently. Cut the permanent horn wire on the SC wheel, strip the end and use a Radio Shack slide on connector appropriately sized to that little nub on the new steering wheel. You crimp the horn wire onto this connector. Very easy.

Final note: I've measured the diameter difference between the SC four spoke and my 2001 MR2 three spoke. The IS300/MR2/Matrix-XRS/Corolla-XRS wheels are indeed smaller in diameter but they're only by about 1/2" if memory serves. How they feel in your hand and look on the car compared to the four spoke is a world of difference though.

I recommend obtaining a black steering column cover or SEM painting your tan or gray one. Just that alone with a tan interior looks like it came that way from the factory.
