Default shift **** thread size

Im looking onto buying a new shift **** for my 1993 5 speed sc.

What is the correct shift **** thread size? I tried searching here and google but am confused. People are telling me different things.

Is it....12x1.5 or is it 12x1.25 or 10x1.25? Which one works?

On the subject, I have a lot of play in my shifter. What I mean is, whether it is in gear or not, I can move the actual **** around about an inch in any direction, really loose, really uncomfortable for 350whp, is there a bushing?washer? serial number or just any old thing will do?

I assume you have tried tightening it/screw it down? If you have it could be stripped and you could try tapping it. A 12 x 1.25 tap will not be the easiest to come by and it wont be all that cheap either, if you can a bottoming tap would work best.
