Kumho Tires - Need Opinions
Ok, I have received very conflicting opinions regarding these tires. Some people are saying they are the best thing since the invention of rubber. Others are saying they are junk and not even worth the bargain basement price.
I have a 1995 SC400 with no mods. I am a fairly aggressive driver, however, I have not been (and do not plan to be) on a track. It would mainly be for local driving.
Any Opinions?
Thanks,
Tim
P.S. I live in Las Vegas.

How long (how many miles) did the Kumho tire last, original size? 18" size?

My Kumho's lasted about a year with heavy travel on the PA turnpike. I would approximate 20k mileage. They were 245/40/18
For the money and what you get, this tire is the way to go. Are their better tires? Yes. Is there a better value? Hell No!

For the money, can't be beat! I haven’t had the chance to try anything else on my car yet other than the original rubber, but I’ve loved them. I’ve had the Ecsta Supras since last summer and I love them. I live in the Midwest and switch off with winter tires, but even in light snow they work (read with traction control you can drive if some snow sticks to the ground). I haven’t autocrossed with them yet, but I like to drive hard and they have never let me down. Plus they have a rim guard! It’s a little bead of rubber around the outside lip that may or may not help with curbs.
FYI, just checked www.tirerack.com and www.kumhotireusa.com, looks like they have some new models that I don’t have experience with.

Ecsta Supras are killer tires for the money. They are cheap and good performers. They aren't that quiet, but like Overclocker said, for the money, they can't be beat.

Khumo's hold up for me. On the Accord, they were put on summer '00. I'd estimate 25,000 miles and they are still just fine. Of course, I rotate them and don't smoke them much.
The SC300, the previous owner had them on there almost a year and they are excellent condition. They perform well. I recommend them.

Thx for the info Lex Luthor, do you speak from experience?
BTW, would you be the same Lex that used to post the best stories on ladman.com (may it R.I.P.)?

i got my set of escta supras for $510 installed, road side, etc. there 245/40/18. there on my LS, there great and will last, just dont light them up, they will go bald QUICK!
On the subject, when the tires get a lil low on thread and it gets cold, do you guys feel a lump flat spot for about 5 miles, then when the tires warm up they smooth out? or is it just me?

I like my Kumho's
I've never owned expensive brands but I do like them better than the Nitto 555's I used to have.
Not the stickiest but very sticky considering the millage I get with them.
I gaurantee most of the bad press is spread by members of their competition. I mean when was the last time a car with Kumho's won Toyo's Hot Import Nights?
Know your source. In the case of this thread a lot of happy Lexus owners.

I think they're awesome tires for the money, but mine only last 5k if I'm lucky. Of course, if you have ridden with me, you'll understand.
