93-94 Cornering lights VS. 95 Fog lamps ONLY
Hey,
I've come to the conclusion that the 93-94 cornering lamps suck.
I want fog lights in there, not some stupid cornering lamps.
I believe this post is different from all of the other ones previously posted, it is NOT a question about oldfront styling vs the 1997+ front styling and foglights.
I want to check up on some differences between the 93-94 vs. 95 "fog light" differences:
-What bulb does the 93-94 cornering lamp use?
-What bulb does the 95 fog lamp use?
I believe the 93-94 uses dinky 1156 bulbs while the 95 uses actual headlight 9006 bulbs for its foglights.
Does this mean that the FOG LIGHT part itself, the lense, has a different 'backing' between the years to accomodate the different bulbs? Can someone verify this?
This would also mean that wiring harnesses entering the "fog light" are different. Can this wiring be retrofitted from 95 to 93-94 models at all?
I hear that trying to put a 9006 bulb in a 93-94 will cause overheating and melting of the wire because the original wiring for the 1156 is so thin.
From what I know, I may have to purchase a set of 1995 Fog light lenses so that I can even fit 9006 bulbs, and then get some custom wiring harnesses done if I want 9006 bulbs in the foglights of my 94.
Thanks.

All the fog/cornering lights are H3 55w bulbs. The only change was made in the wiring. Cornering lights can be made into fog lights quite easily with a relay. My foglights came DOA, and I made them work via relays.

Cool lex400sc, that is good to hear.
Thanks for the info.
Your car looks great.
BTW, looking at the center open area of your front bumper (where you have that "intercooler" in your sig), did you cut out the horizontal and vertical bar that go through there?
Or is that just a change the 1995 model had over previous years.
I like that look.

hehe I know that, I was just mentioning that to point out the area I was talking about.
In your original picture, you have a big gaping hole in the middle instead of a horizontal and vertical bar going through. Is that custom or just a new 1995 bumper?

lex400sc, this is what I mean.
I'm not sure if this was a bumper change between the years 94 and 95, but how come some SC's have the 'cross' bars (horizontal and vertical) in the center front air dam while others dont?
Here's the one WITHOUT the bars in the middle:

Here's the one WITH the bars.
Both are 1994+ because they don't have the black lip on the front like the 92-93s have, so whats with the discrepancies? Are they custom jobs or just a change in the 95 bumper by Lexus?
lex400sc, your's looks like the one without bars, but then again, you have a 1995.

I think all the pre-95s had that crossbeam, because it was first revised in the 1995 models. The first '94 you showed my have been a light fender bender and had the front bumper replaced. I agree with you though, the open air dam is much better looking. I should try to remove the black cross bars on mine too. That would reduce turbulence quite a bit.

Lex Luthor--
Are you sure the front spoiler was not deleted in 94?
And also, so the body-color plastic grill on the 92-94's is NOT removable?
Can anyone else with a 92-94 SC confirm that the cornering lamp uses the 55W H3 bulb? I could've sworn I read something different from that in previous posts when using the search function. Just want to make sure, thanks.
