Here is a table I lifted from Wikipedia that can be informative . Looks like this info is based on Calendar Year. The annotations in blue are references from which the editors lifted the numbers. Looks like they have lumped the 1991 production with the 1992 that is why the number of production is a lot bigger than sales and technically the Lexus SC model started in 1992. So is the 120 number only for the 1997 calendar year manufactured vehicles ? I still don't know ! Hope one day we will find a more credible source and will find out .

Sometimes opportunity has a cost and is rarer than the cash. That said I put a couple grand of work into it immediately replacing seals, belts, water pump and brakes so I could enjoy it. This is for fun after having a 92 5speed in college and not a collectible for me. I love the purity of the car not even having traction control and absent turbos, drive by wire, brake by wire ,noise cancellation and so many things that make cars faster but only prove to isolate the driver from driving. I only wish it had a LSD. It might be collectible in the future but will always take a back seat to the Supra. 90s Japanese cars time is coming soon with the blue chip cars already on the way up which is why I bought it when I did, it isn't going to get any cheaper, only rarer.
That is a damn clean car . It will be nice if those 1 of 120s prices do start to pick up . A car is worth as much as one is willing to pay for it .
the thing that will hold these cars back and makes the iffy collectibles is the base SC300/400 are sort of boring. Even the 5speeds aren't part of a sport package or anything and while yes the Supra stuff just bolts on, collectibles live and die by stock form. With the " a rising tide raises all boats" model these will always be worth a bit more than the normal SC300 but with the SC300 being common and unloved by the enthusiasts due to being heavy, underpowered and soft, the base price will be slow to apply upward pressure on the top end of the SC300 market. As for the 120 developing a separate pricing phyla, seems unlikely as there are too few with to few survivors in collectible grade to have a established market. besides there are to many 97-00 autos that can have a transmission swap for cheap to make the real 5speeds a "this or nothing" driving proposition. Honestly the late model 400s are mostly likely going to be the king of the SC Mountain as turbos make N/A V8 a thing of the past.
Every car is a collectible. I've seen mk3's sell for 20K, There will just be less of a population pool willing to spend that much for that specific car. Which is why the majority of them are garbage.
