Default sc300 fuel pump access plate

Hello Group:

New member and new post. Found a 1992 SC300, 143K miles that has been sitting outside for the past 6 years. I got it for FREE!!!! (Really!! just had to get a tow and that cost 140.00) But.. can I get it running??

First test: compression. 195 to 205 PSI cold compression on all 6 cyl. YEAH!!!. Engine should start. Did a full tuneup, timing belt, water pump etc. It is now all put back together and "ready to run", but cannot get fuel to the engine. No sound from the fuel pump. Researched "replacing fuel pump and saw there whould be an access hole behind the rear seat. Yup, right where forum said it would be...plate about 6" in diameter...no screws or bolts. The big rectangular plate has 5 nuts, but looks like it is glued as well. Big PITA to remover

Do I just forcibly pry the silver circle out with a putty knife? Would the pump be frozen with old fuel varnish? Procedure to test/repair? Best option to just buy a new one and stick it in?

THANKS for any advice.

pull that cover off with screw driver or something. then you gotta unbolt the cover 12 bolts, then the 3 nuts then slide the pump out id clean out the gas tank dude. and just get another fuel pump. i think i may have one laying around.. nice find and post up pictures!

drain. tank or suck it out while you have the pump out, and yes you have to pry the silver cover off

you could try the 12v mod and see if the pump turns on the fuel pump ecu might be out thats what happen to mine. You can jump the fuel pump from the diagnostics port under the hood also

I know this is an old thread but how do you do that FP +b thing in the diagnostic port?

Jump the two terminals with a jumper cable of sufficient gauge to handle 12v to the pump. A thick paper clip also works.

Oh and careful cause it will get hot! Also be sure not to ground the jumper, as it is 12v direct from the battery.
