hid kits are incredibly easy to use.
W/O a harness its as simple as remove the old bulb, plug the socket into the ballest and connect the new bulb to the ballest.
I would get a relay hit(or make one). With a relay hit. You plug the end of one of the bulb cables into the harness. Then connect the harness to both battery posts and connect the harness to both ballests.
Get 4300k hids (6000k suck, unless u love the ricer look and want your eyes to bleed at night from the blue light)

You don't need the accessory harness/relay kit. Just the HID kit.
I've ran a couple different kits from them.
First on my old car I had the Apexcone (big ballast) kit, it was very quite and never gave me a problem.
I ran the DDM kit for my foglights on my old car, they're a little louder, but not loud like eBay kits, never had a problem with them.
Currently on my Lexus I'm running a 55w DDM kit, and it's fackin awesome. The 55w kit makes the HIDs look like OEM because of how bright and crisp they are. I love em.
Like Ryeno said, they're super easy to install, you put the HID bulb where the normal bulb was, and the bulb's wires connect to the ballast/ignitor, then that plugs into your normal headlight socket.
DDMs kit's come with a little installation packet.

And so far as your color reccomendation...
4,300k is basically OEM style, what most manufacturers use. 6,000k is hardly blue, it's pretty much bright white.
I'm running 8k, it's bright white with a slight blue tint.
Different manufacturers will vary in their color rating.

Don't want to thread jack but I think it would be a good idea for people to post pictures of their HID's in action along with the temp rating and manufacturer. Just an idea b/c I am interested in upgrading. I don't want that ricer look but something that is a little different then the OEM look as well...

I brought like 3 Ebay HID kits, 2HID for SC300 (headlights and fogs) and 1HID for my beater. I always get the cheapest one from china, they really do have fast shipping, it should take less than a week. I only had one problem in one of my hid kit. The connectors weren't touching the ends good enough, it took me a while to figure the problem out, but i fix it and it works. The bulb and ballest never dies! It still works from this day on without any problems. They stuff is good products but sometimes their harness sux. If ur good with electric stuff, it should be fine.
