The hinge dropping is a common fault on the Soarer, first sign is the door dropping when you open it (not much at first), you may also notice that when closing the door it rises up when it hits the lock plate (mine does it, about 2mm).
If left long enough the door will drop a little further and POP, you have taken the paint of the wing edge, if your hinge/door shows signs of "droop" you can rectify it by placing a jack under the door and liting it up a bit, do it with door open about 5" and place a long thick peice of wood under door to spread the lifting force (dont buckle the door! ), this should be done towards the rear edge of the door.
On a POS car you can do this just by grabbing the bottom of the door and giving a few sharps tugs upwards, this wont work on our car as the door/hinge/mounting panel are fairly solid.

Would frequent lubrication with, say, silicon spray reduce the probability of premature wear? I'm looking for some kind of PM.

They figured that if you can buy this car when new, you wouldn't keep it that long to find out ALL the fault in their design.

Guys,
The original bearings on these hinges are roller bearings and the main problem is they can't be greased. Water gets in to the rollers and they rust out. You can't buy parts for the hinge from Lexus or any body else, just the complete hinge which you found is expensive. Buying another hinge from a wrecker will likely get you a hinge same as you have now, worn.
This guy ddemarte@bigpond.net.au is the only one reconditioning these hinges. They have grease nipples fitted and are painted to original colors.
