i wouldnt say that i 'hypermile' but i have experimented with running the car at lower rpms and adjusting my driving habits once premium gas hit $4.90 in southwestern CT. my 92 sc300 got around 21.5 mpg...with simple intake and exhaust mods. alot of the driving was to and from work on the highways...i tried to keep my speed around 65.

I use some of the techniques but not the extreme ones.
I've been averaging 26mpg mixed city and highway. That's damn good for the SC. I figure on the highway, I have to be around or over 30mpg.

well since ive been working in OC n i live in the inland (CA AREA)... i started to test my mpg..
55-60mph:
24 mpg
65-70mph:
23.6 mpg
23.9 mpg
23.5 mpg
23.3 mpg
70-75mph..
i got 22.17 mpg.
n my having fun tank..
75-80 + hard starts etc..
20 mpg
n chea.. so far my tank right now ive been going 65-70.. only 2 WOT moments to pass.. so far like 240 miles on this tank.. n it says im a lil below half tank.. but since SC's arnt accurate im assuming 9.5-10 gallons left.
to be continued. =O

I don't hypermile but i do draft off of 18 wheelers. i normally get around 20 hwy and on a 300 mile trip (almost all on the hwy) i got 26 mpg at abt 70 mph while drafting. I wouldn't do this if i had a decent paint job and ironically enough, the only chip i have on my windshield came when i wasn't drafting. also have yet to be pulled over for tailgating. I'm sure you could draft off of SUVs and such but i figure if i'm gonna be 2-3' off the back of a vehicle, i want to be 100% sure they can't stop faster than i can.

I have not owned my SC300 for very long, but these have been the results from calm normal driving so far:
1st tank, San Diego to San Francisco 500 miles on the dot - 27mpg
2nd tank, Mixed highway/city, San Fran to Fresno and back - 26mpg
3rd tank, San Fran to San Diego 499.9 miles - 29mpg
4th tank, SDSU to La Jolla mixed highway/city - 25mpg
Whenever I'm on the highway I try to use cruise control and set it between 60 and 70mph. No hard starts and trying to ease off the gas early for red lights. No unnecessary idling.
It needs a tuneup and the tires could use some more air, but I will address that soon.
If you want good gas mileage, keep your car in tune and drive sensibly. Good driving habits pay back instantly with fuel economy and over the lifetime of the driver, with lower insurance premiums (due to less mishaps).

basically its doing everything possible to squeeze the best mpg out of the car including things like no a/c windows up, removing any extra weight, drafting bigger vehicles, driving at lower speeds. ive even heard of ppl putting the gear in neutral or even turning the car off when going dowhill
