Smelly A/C 95 SC400
At the beginning of this year (08) I had to drive round trip through some serious cattle farm country every day for about two months. The odor was horrible and some of it still lingers in the car. Most was in the trunk liner so after trying some ineffective remedies it now it stinks like bad perfume. I have a solution for that, but I still get the awful cowpoop odor from the AC system. It's fine with just the fresh air vents on, but when I turn on the AC compressor, the stink begins.
So my question is, isn't there a charcoal filter or a filter of any sort that I can get at and clean or replace to rid my otherwise cool ride of the smell?
If so, where is it? Is it expensive to replace (am retired, fixed income)? Or can I just wash it? I guess the biggest question is, is there a filter and can I clean it?
Thanks,
John

Thanks, easy fix. There are two plastic retainers that hold the panel under the glove box. Pop them out and the panel comes off.
Then remove the two wing nuts under the AC stuff and pull the filter retainer straight down to get it off.
Mine did not have any filters installed so I didn't have to worry about removing old ones.
The box that the filters came in had instructions about how to set them when you install them. There are two. Easy fix.
Oh, yes, BTW, before I did any of this I had some pet odor remover from PetSmart so I turned the AC on and the fan on high and sprayed a bunch of it down the intake found under the hood. I sprayed it with both the AC on and off and did it a couple of different times. The stuff was not perfumed, but did smell very slightly of bleach. It made a BIG difference in eliminating the odor and mold smell.
Then installing the new filters finished it off. No smell at all now when I turn the AC or vent air on.
The Lexus part number of the filters is 88880-30040. Cost $49.95.
