Default 98 SC400 "TELESCOPING WHEEL" Problems

I have done a search for a fix for this and can only find info on the TILT STEERING WHEEL PROBLEMS. My steering wheel does not go "IN & OUT" Some times it will function for a few seconds and than just dies. I have absolutely no grinding sounds. It is an intermittent problem, so it has me baffled. I do not know if the whole rubber washer fix, will work for my problem. I have tried searching as well as reading all 9 pages of the TILT WHEEL PROBLEM thread. If anyone has had any luck with repairing this problem, please HELP me. I would really appreciate anyone's input.

if you aren't grinding you can likely just blame the switch itself. Smooth mechanical operation and intermittent problems points to electrical. It could be a relay....... but is likely a switch.
