Opinion requested on painting my headlight housing....
I am going to be doing a HID retrofit soon and was thinking about painting the whole reflector area or whatever its called the same color as the car (platinum metalic silver). I would either just leave it chrome colored like it is and just clean it really well or paint it so the paint flows in to the lights. What do you all think?

I think it would look bad! I personaly would leave it chrome as I like some chrome on my cars. And I think it's taking away some of the styling. If anything I would paint it black but still I think it looks wierd.

you are going to struggle to try to match the factory paint without making it look cheap.
if you are going to go all out and do it, I would get the actual paint code into a sprayer and go through the proper paint stages to make it look 100% identical in terms of both color and gloss. At that point, it may indeed lok fantastic...although delination of the lens may be required to even make that look good.

Keep it Chrome, nothing looks more gaudy than to change the color of your headlight housings to match the paint of the car. And like others have said, if you nail it DEAD on PERFECT, it might look good. Personally I thought about doing it, but then reconsidered because my chrome ones are still in decent condition. Now if they were at their end, I would definitely give it a shot.
For example, the guy who customized his entire SC and painted it red with matched red headlights imo doesn't look too bad. Its only because he was able to match the colors. If they don't match, no point imo.

If you had clear/delined plastic covers, the silver-painted inside would look a lot cleaner than with lined covers. The chrome inside looks kind of silver-ish already, though. I think cleaning the outside and the inside chrome would make the headlights look a lot better.
I've been wanting to open up my headlights to clean the chrome but I've been too chicken to so far but I did recently clean all the yellow off the headlights with a few chemicals and it made it look so much better. At first, it looked like the yellow was on the inside (and maybe the outside, too) because I did a quick try to clean the headlights without any hardcore chemicals and the yellow didn't come off, then I realized the yellow was only on the outside when I started to use chemicals on the outside of the headlights. I used tooth paste, Oops! and a few others.

I think they look better stock, but if you are going to paint then make sure you use paint that can take some heat. Went through all that trouble on mine, and the paint started to bubble and look like crap.
