So would just changing the mirror resolve the problem or would it have to be the whole mirror?

Just change the glass, it can be done with a flat head screw driver, it is just held on by clips. You have to be careful because there is only one way to proper take it out of the housing.

Does anyone know how to wire the auto-dim mirrors into a 92-95 sc?

My driver side mirror on my 96' 400 has the same problem. I have the entire mirror + harness for the driverside from a 96' 300 ... I was trying to swap the glass but for some reason its not prying out... do you need to pull the whole thing apart or does it take a little elbow grease to pop it out?

Curry; you'll need to pry with a wide flathead screwdriver from the bottom up..There are too clips on the bottom that hold the glass intact with the mirror..Just pry and lift, not too much force is need...

Where can you get replacement glass? Once you replace, will the auto dim still work?

Has anyone tried replacing non auto-dimming mirrors with auto-dimming? Sounds like this may be a nice upgrade if it's possible.

Sorry to bring this up again, but i would like some clarification.

So is it possible to fix the "bubbles" in the glass by swapping out just the mirror part with a 96-00 mirror? Or would you have to replace the entire assembly? And once you swap it, would the auto dimming still work?

Thanks a lot for everyone's help

I have a 98 SC400 and my side mirrors don't appear to auto-dim. Do all 98 SC's have auto-dimming side mirrors, or was is it just an option? Assuming my side mirrors are auto-dim, any way to easily test why they are not working? If they are not auto-dim, can I buy mirrors from the dealer and get them plugged in?

Does anyone know where I can just buy the replacement glass only? My drivers side mirror is all green and funky like the one pictured.

Junk yard or ebay or find a member parting out a SC on this forum.

Old thread bump, but disappointingly, it was preemptively bumped in '13...

They are not plug and play, you'll need a whole new door harness, there are 2extra wires that are needed to run the autodim feature in your pre-96 SC...One of these wires is brown and the other is blue..
So, '96-00 has auto-dimming side and rearview mirrors. Interestingly, the clear spots shown in post #7 look better than the "regular" surface, which might be what I've been chasing with my dislike of the clarity of the SC's mirrors. They've got a weird fuzzy, washed out quality.

Anyway, I couldn't find whether the '96-00 auto-dimming rearview mirror works on '92-95 models? The connector looks the same, but the newer ones are 4-wire while the older ones are 2-wire with the other two terminals empty. That makes me think the capability was built in from the start, so maybe the circuitry is there to power it.
