Changing the Auto Trans Fluid in the SC400
Happy Holidays Guys!
One of the things I would like to do this year is to change the Auto Trans fluid in my 93 SC400 more often and probably at a 10,000 mile interval as part of my standard maintenance regim.
The previous owner used to change his oil and filter each 3K miles and so do I.
How hard is it to drop the Auto Trans oil out? Where is the drain plug? Can someone post a digital picture of it? How much trans oil does it take?
Also, is there a filter and gasket for the AT transmission? If so, how do you change this out and how often?

The manual read 30K miles normal driving, 15K miles all other. Yes, you do need to change the trans. fluid. No gasket or filter needed. a 14 mm size bolt (same as the oil pan) just look past the oil pan you'll see the trans. bolt. takes 2 liters to replace. Only use Toyota trans. fluis type T-IV...
I paid 4 liters can for $21 from Steve Ganz.

No
you don't!
Toyota wants more of your money and that's the only reason they say to change out any fluids on a preventative maintenance basis other than the engine oil.

change the fluid or you may have torque converter issues. there are 8 qts or so and you only change 2 of them do what the factory says and change it or else you may pay later.
remember to use the T-IV ATF not, Dexron ATF

Does anyone know about the procedure on an SC300? Is it the same or different than on the 400? Is there a filter and gasket? How much fluid does it take? Why wouldn't you use Dexron? I'm pretty sure my dipstick says to use Dexron, but I could be wrong. Any help appreciated.

SC300 use Dexron trans. fluid. Don't waste your money on Toyota Type T-IV. Only SC400 and LS400 tranmission need to use Toyota type T-IV. My SC400 doesn't show anything on SC300. Type T-IV maybe has to do with the smoothness of the shifting on the trans. If Toyota designed SC300 to use dexron, then you should use dexron.
As for SC400 the manual read: change the fluid every 30K for normal driving. Only change 2 liters at a time. No filter needed.
Just like the engine oil the manual recommend 7500 miles per oil change. Do you change your oil at 3000 miles? I change mine trans. at every 15K miles
