Default I have a ? about buying an SC

I am looking to buy a SC300 or the SC400 and I was wondering if there is any thing that I should look for when buying? Is there any years I should stay away from? It is very hard to find a 5 speed SC. I live in So Cal. I need help thanks guys. If I do not by this car then I am also looking into buying a Toyota Solora. Please help

SC and Solara are like Apples and Oranges.

SC = Old man's sports car. Sports car chassis with old man necessities (+500lbs)
Solara = Sensible camry fan trying to appear sporty. (2 door camry)

I'd test drive both cars due to their completely different driving characteristics. It is FR vs FF.

I had this exact same dilemma a few months ago. Wasn't sure if I was going to go sc400 or a sc300 auto or 5 speed. I did end up with the sc300 5 speed because I got a sweet car at a pretty good price. I will tell you now, this is a great car with a lot of aftermarket support. So much that i am thinking about going crazy with building a drag car with this sc300 5 speed and buying another sc400 for my daily..........Knowing my addiction to speed the sc400 will end up with a nitrous system on it regardless........

i do know theres a guy down here in Texas i talked to today that had a nice turbo sc300 for sale on ebay that i was looking at. But half the fun is building the car.

good luck

First of all I want to say thank you guys helping me out so far. I know that the SC and Solora's are two different cars but those are the cars that I am looking at. I really like the SC 5 spd but the one's that I am finding all have over 120k miles on them. I found a few 5pd Solora's. I am getting rid of my 2001 IS.

Why are you selling the IS300? My girlfriend has an Auto 5 speed IS300 and I own a Manual 5 Speed SC300. Her car is more nimble, roomier, faster, and gets better mileage. It is only lacking in luxury as it is the striped down version with no leather or power seats. The IS also outclasses the Solara hands down.

I have both. Each does their thing. But the SC is the one I play with.

If you want something 4 door, 5 speed and sporty. Buy a used WRX sedan/wagon (currently around 12-15k on craigslist, ca many are 5 spd). I believe, hands down that is the best bang for your buck (AWD, 225hp, 217lb/ft, 3100lbs, 0-60 in 5.6s). And since you're coming from an IS300, the interior quality isn't strikingly different.
