i started removing the gold with the cotton material that comes in the silver can that smells strong. the gold comes off pretty easily with some rubbing. i just need to have it buffed to a polished chrome shine.
should i just go to carwash place to have them use their buffer to do it for me. i dont own a small buffer tool.
if i get all the gold off, will a normal buffer get it polished. or does it need some type of cream to use while buffing it to polish

im going to tape off around the pieces to protect the paint. the gold comes off pretty easy. i just need a light polish or buff to give it a shinier look. if it doesnt work out so nice, i will swap to new chrome peices.
its just that the long peice above the plate isnt replacable. they told me i need the whole part its attached to for $700. any ideas

when you strip the gold from the emblems, they will only be nickel plated which will tarnish quickly. you can wax them for longer looks but the nickel needs a top coat of chrome or gold to last.

I would agree its not as durable as original chrome but I did mine 3 1/2 years ago and they still look great. I do keep my car in the shop but still........ Looks way better than the faded gold.
I have a complete set of brand new still in the wrapper chrome ones I bought but never bothered to put them on so....
