word. Stick a screwdriver in there and you will be able to move the shifter without stepping on the brakes or putting a key in the ignition.

i dont suggest playing with the shifter override-leave it alone. its for emergency use only--every merc, bmw lex has it(diffr spots )

lol theres nothing wrong with playing with it, just make sure your foot is on the brake or make sure you shift that sucker straight to N and not hit D or R

I've had to use it a few times, the most common reason being no brake lights at all. If your stop light fuse blows, you can't shift the car from P unless you use the override, safety feature.

Why? Mine is a button (not a slot or opening of any kind) and I press it to move the shifter while the car is parked. No need to jam anything in there to make it work. Just press the button. Are you missing the button?

...mine has a cover that i need to remove first, then i have to stick my key or a flathead screwdriver in the slot and it presses a button down there that unlocks the shifter...

I have a cover on my 97'. But bellow it was a button and when I pressed it. My passenger seat flow out and landed 30 feet behind the car.

Was this a US factory option? or JDM only?
