Default New idea for 92-94 Tail lights....

OK, its NOT the supra taillight/clear taillight idea haha

This involves the actual lighting scheme itself. Do you guys think it would be possible by switching bulb sockets and a little amateur rewiring of which wires connect to which sockets, it would be possible to achieve the following look? This will make it look a little more like the later model tails instead of our cheap corner lights only. Since we'd still be using the same 6 bulbs, not adding any, the entire circuit would still run the appropriate wattage...

When your taillights are ON, here's what you would see from behind (NOTE: My turn signals are painted red, so I tried to adjust the pic a little bit to be red instead of the normal orange, with my setup if these were the tails they would appear red not orange):

Basically this would make it such that the 3 bulb sockets that are currently the turn signals will now run together as the tail light.

Then the little corner light we which is currently our REAL taillight would be rewired as the TURN SIGNAL:

Finally that would leave the brake lights, which would remain as the two inner most bulbs that are currently brake lights only + your third light (spoiler or in car).

In summary, here is what I am suggesting:

Red = Tail lights
Blue = Turn Signals
Yellow = Brake Lights

Or am I in over my head here?

Well I think it is very doable. I don't even think you have to rewire anything. When I took my tails out to paint the tops red, I accidentally put the bulbs in wrong and the inermost side of the tail light up when my lights were on. I'm pretty sure you can just rearrange the bulbs and you should be fine.

Well something would have to be rewired cause I'm talking taking ONE tail light corner bulb we have now, and turning it into THREE bulbs in the turn signal vs. taking the THREE turn signal bulbs that are there now, and cutting those down to the ONE corner light bulb...

just rearranging doesn't work fully also because some of the bulbs are 1156 vs 1157, and the 1156 sockets dont fit where the holes are for the 1157 bulbs, and vice versa

raj wow haha. actually theres someone on here with an easier similar mod which you might also like. they wired up the brake lights which is inner bottom with the regular tails (outter) and it looked like a long stream of light not as fluid as a 95 or 97 but still smoother. just imagine the 92 lights with the brake lights on but with output of regular beam.

So basically your looking for 92-94 lights with the 95-96 lighting style at less than half the cost? Sounds good.

Let us know how it turns out.

i believe that the decrease in wattage from the 3 turn signal bulbs to 1 turn signal bulb will definately cause hyperblinking.

Indeed they do, but a clean set of 95's or 97's will run me up over $200. This mod wouldn't cost more than some wiring and electrical tape, maybe a new bulb or something. Total cost < $15

Z the problem wit that is that you still have the reverse light squished in between the two bottom bulbs, which means there would be a break in the light and I don't think it would look too good. But I might end up trying that if I can't do my plan...just to get a little change, thanks for that suggestion though

Get some candy red spray paint, some clearcoat, and paint your taillights Red. Its cheap and improves the look of the 92-94 tails.

Well the only guy thats done the DIY clear is the guy in Hawaii It will cost you less to buy 97 tails
So far he is the only one who has done that mod stateside, I'm not going near that mod, its way too involved, unless I have an extra set of tails that I have no intentions of using unless it actually works hehe
