Carbon Fiber hood and trunk...HELP!
#16
I plan on doing at least the hood at some point, and possibly the trunk. They will both be painted. The hood is just way too heavy, doing the CF hood for weight savings alone. The trunk, if i find a scary good deal, i'll get one then. I love having the car as a sleeper, but the thought of another 70+lbs being gone and no one being the wiser is truely a neat thought. Also, i wouldnt sell the trunk or hood due to vin #s on them in case i'd ever want to sell the car.

Although I seriously lack the funds right now, at the moment I've been tossing around the idea of going with a CF hood. Hadn't thought about painting it, but that would be a lot better looking than just weave. Reason being, the hood looks like the p.o. threw large rocks at it, i got dents, scratches and a good bit of rust in one spot, essentially it looks like a 16 year old owned it =). All said and done how much more would the C.F. hood be than just getting a nice new black hood put on?

i got a cf hood from VIS and the reason i bought it was cause my factory hood had a huge amounts of dents and scrapes and scratches in it. my body shop guy told me its just better to buy a new hood. so instead of buying factory i bought a cf one. my car is 1jz and a bunch of other goodies so no need to actually replace the hood with factory especially when it costs more. i was plannin on painting my car all black anyways.

If anyone has Geico insurance they will cover your cosmetic mods up to $1000 for free. It will cost you extra for $1000 or extra but anything under you are good to go...thanks again!
ps. if anyone has any questions about auto insurance feel free to ask...you can post on here or PM me

JGscott - Yes I think those changes would help.....I looked into weight lose on these SC's and I was told the CF replacements may drop your car weight 50-70lbs total. Hood and trunk .. Supra or aftermarket front seat swaps 50-70lbs if I remember correctly, full spare tire and jack, tools removal 50-70lbs. Etc..The Sc bumbers are light in weight and filled with foam so I don't know how much weight loss you will gain there....
Light weight rims and driveshaft is a good idea....

Personally I think carbon looks good on a car as long as it's black or real dark grey. Plus painting and matching your stock paint can be a pain.
Really it's a matter of personal preference. Whatever looks best to you is all that matters, it's your car. Paint it pink and put hello kitty on the hood if it makes you happy.
