Soon-to-be SC300 owner, just saying hi!
Hi everyone, my name is Daniel; I'm from Muncie, Indiana and am 20 years old and a BSU Student. I found a nice black SC300 manual in Indy and am in the process of getting a loan for it, (Loan is approved, just need my cosigner to sign some papers when she gets in town).
I currently own a 1985 Buick Regal T-Type (same as a Grand National) that my brother and I have modified quit a bit. Although it'll never be as fast as an '86/'87 (intercooled from factory though it does have an intercooler), it was plenty fast for me, last time it ran (about 17 months ago ). I have no idea how fast it will be when it gets running again, probably too fast for a kid my age. If anyone wants to see some pictures, I have them at: http://community.webshots.com/user/danwenning .
I've been interested in the Lexus for a while, although I originally wanted an '89 MR2 S/C that was local. Drove it and loved it, but the owner wanted way too much money for it. ($5k for a $3k car). Also the MR2 seemed too hard to work on with its setup being a lot like a FWD car and being stuffed into that tiny engine bay. I also looked at the AE86 corollas since they basically fit the bill, but too much Initial D tax on them, same went for almost every other Japanese car that I looked at. I also looked at some BMW’s but my friend has one already and it just would have been weird having the same car.
I was really just looking for something RWD & manual, fun to drive, and with a decently inexpensive purchase price. That's when I saw the light. I started looking for them, but couldn't find crap that was local. Nearest I found was Louisiana (I believe the owner posted a for sale thread on this board). Buying a car from that far away would have been too much of a hassle (even though the price was extremely good). So I gave up. On a whim I checked cars.com and found a 95 SC3 with 96,000 miles. Only things I could see that were wrong with it by driving it was that the tires needed replaced, the passenger mirror was cracked, and the trunk fell on my head. Even so, I couldn't wipe the ridiculous smile off of my face for about 2 days. So here I am. I should pick it up on Christmas Eve (no, mommy and daddy didn't pay for it, I am). I'm also scheduled to donate plasma on Monday as a way to help me pay for the cars/school. Sorry, I typed a lot, just excited! I'm really looking forward to being a part of another car community.
