Does anyone have instructions on programming the remote entry transmitter (key fob) WITHOUT going to the dealer? My closest dealer is 2 hours away.

Hello Webgod,
My car was missing the remotes when I bought it. I checked to make sure I had a remote receiver, which I do (it's located behind the ride side panel of the rear seat). After checking my FCC ID, I bought one on Ebay that had the same code instead of buying a new one. A new one is about $170. I've been told they are easy to program to your car. Hopefull someone on the forum has done it before.

Webgod,
I had been waiting for a remote fob for my model SC400 to come up on Ebay for a couple of months or more. It cost me about 30 bucks. There are lots of remotes that come up on other model Lexus's but not a 96 SC400. I got it from someone named Kevin. I really don't know if my receiver is working, I guess I will find out.

Webgod,
The remote lock receiver is located behind the panel beneath the right rear side window, the same place that the mechanism for the front passenger seat belt is. It's not to hard to pop the panel off, removing the rear bottom seat cushion makes it easier.

you pop a new battery in and your good to go. My second couusin, who works for lexus laughed at me when I ask if there were any procedures in reseting the remotes. He was right, all I did was put the new battery in and I was good to go.

procedure
There is a very long procedure involving the door lock switch opening and closing the door, the ignition switch and some patience. Check the service manual.
I also have a tip...sometimes the remote key stops working even when the battery is new. I took mine apart and found out that the microswitch had corroded in the metal contacts within I cleaned it...need a good eye for this as parts are small. I reprogrammed and now the range is about 10 car lenghts.
