Never had this problem in my Soarer, not from around the steering column anyway. Mine's usually heat coming from the tranny but even that's not too bad.

I dont think this problem exists with my car (maybe because I always have a/c on 1 or 2 bars) but the burning smell of my black leather isnt good either.

Don't notice it either in the SC4 - exhaust is probably routed differently too though.

I have the same problem in my GS. Seems like a lot of hot air coming from right below the steering. Passengers also mentioned that they feel warm air around the glove box area.

I guess this is good for the winter

Hey guys u know what's kinda funny, the boys over in the Sc430 section have a identical post going, It seems like the Sc430's have the same sort of problem, If anyone finds a solution here u might wanna pass it over to them or vice versa

yeah this sucks as i thought was the only one that had the issue. I think putting extra heat sheild material might be the only way to fix this. Kinda sucks but hey. Looks like design flaw. There weren't many with these cars so i gueSS it's better then a crappy Tranny

Give it a few minutes to cool down since there is still heat in the core, letting the car sit a while is a good idea too just to be sure.

is the metal rod the arm?

I too have this same problem. It is not powered by the fan but from the air outside (air vents). Passing through the heater core heating the air and into the car. I feel it as I drive with the a/c off, but at a full stop its gone. I figure that the vent isn't shut all the way and could be the cause. I'll have to try that manual close and arm removal to verify. Thanks OLT, you always seem to provide very promising ideas, if not, solutions.

I got to go with this Cat position idea, When I did my exhaust I moved them down where the air hits them. Maybe its all in my head but I think its improved.

adhesive backed reflective foil on the firewall behind the engine, exhaust wrap w/ high temp silicone paint between cats, heat sheild matting around the main cat, and heat/sound barrier around the whole tunnel.

the heat shield around the transmission tunnel helped the most, its a lot quieter inside the cabin also.
